Hi,
It seems almost everyone out here wants to go Auto if possible. Is there any advantage to getting an Auto if I tolerate the pressure (12 cm/H2O) of the Pro 2 with no problem? Is the Auto better for overall health or just a comfort thing? Or maybe this can't be answered until I see some monitoring info. I've ordered the software and reader, so should be able to start monitoring soon. I've been on straight CPAP for about 8 yrs now, with good results. Just mulling over the Auto unit and trying to understand the benefit and whether or not to take the plunge.

Remstar - Pro 2 w/Cflex VS Auto
My opinion, being an AUTO owner is the following.
If you are happy with your straight 12 and tollerate it fine and feel rested (or ar monitoring your data) then there is no treatment benefit to get the apap.
If you feel that running lower part of the night would aid you comfort or compliance, whether it be mask leaks, swallowing air etc., there is benefit to auto.
If you doubt that your titration is correct, it is a little easier and quicker to get new titration with the AUTO. It can be done on your machine with data but not as easily.
Just more options. I would say from what you tell us you should be fine with what you have.

Thanks for the opinions snoregirl, they are appreciated. I'll stick with the Pro 2 for now and see how things are when I get my software. At least I will be able to see if anything has changed over the years. I've been drowsy free for a long time now, so I'm not anticipating any problems.
Thanks Again,
Dave

Dave,
Since you've ordered the software, THAT will (really) tell you what you need to know and if your pressure is right. I own a Pro 2 and two Autos and they're all set up for single pressure (right now it's 12) with C-Flex at 2. I've monitored my therapy daily since the beginning and the large percentage of my nightly AHI is below 1.0.
In my opinion, Autos are fine for determining what your best pressure is, but they're not for EVERYBODY to use in the Auto mode every night.
It doesn't take long to tweak your pressure on a Pro 2 or M Series Pro.
I was on (self titrated) single pressure on my Pro 2 for about a year before I got my first Auto....and tried a range of pressures.....and for ME, the changing pressures disturbed my sleep. I also had higher AHIs using the machines with a pressure range.
My advice (to anyone) is to at least get a machine that collects sleep statistics and has the software available to interpret that data. It's obviously true that straight pressure machines can't be run at a pressure range like the Autos, and that Autos will run in straight pressure.....but, if money is an issue, buy the software with a Pro 2 or an M Series Pro instead of spending the difference on the Auto and you'll still have good therapy.
Actually, the "mask" is an equally (if not more) important factor in getting proper therapy. But, if your pressure isn't right, based on a one-night study with poor sleep.....you're fighting an uphill battle without software.
Best wishes,
Den

Hi Den,
I'll be interested to see what the software points out, as soon as I can research enough to understand it . I do wake a time or two during the night, but feel rested and alert all day. My wife says she doesn't hear any snoring so I'm assuming the waking isn't apnea related. I'll know for sure when the software gets here.
I was on an old Healthdyne for the past 8 yrs and recently got a Pro 2. I agree the mask makes a big difference. I was using the ultra mirage 2 nasal for the past couple years and decided to try the swift, didn't like it. Leaked easily and didn't vent enough for me, not to mention how noisy it was. I went back to the ultra mirage 2. Seems to do well with the Pro 2, very quiet and very little leaking.
Hear lots of folks out here have gone to Auto and thought maybe there were more health benefits to it. Since my compliance is good with cpap (haven't missed a night in 8yrs) and it is comfortable for me, I'll stick with the Pro 2. Doesn't seem to justify spending the $$ in my situation.
