Solution for open-mouth sleeping?
I'm using a chin strap to keep my mouth closed while sleepng; however, that by itself isn't sufficient to prevent air leakage through my lips. So I took some advice from the forum and tried using NexCare Gentle Paper Tape over my lips to prevent that leakage.
The tape works quite effectively, but it is miserable to remove in the morning. At first it was just an annoyance but with continued use, it's now literally pulling skin off my face when I take it off. I don't think I can keep using this.
Does anyone have any other options that have worked well?
Thanks.

i've been using this for years. no leaks and no taping. i use it with a p10 nasal pillow mask. works great.
if you DO try it, please let me know if it works for you. it doesn't always work as we are all different.
good luck!

Thanks, zonker! I've actually seen this post previously and it does look interesting, not to mention probably a whole lot more comfortable. I think I'm going to give it a try. Appreciate the input.

oh! i also use a foam cervical collar. that doesn't keep my lips zipped but it does help keep my jaw from sagging.

Using a chin strap to keep the jaw from dropping.....seems to work OK.

Re: Solution for open-mouth sleeping?
I have had a similar problem with mouth breathing, no matter what. I finally came up with this solution. I use a good quality chin strap that I wear after I attach tape as detailed here: I take a dried ultra soft sensitive skin cleansing wipe, (baby wipe), and cut it into a roughly 3.25" X 1.5" strip. Be sure to let the wipe dry before you cut it. I then use a 2" wide 3M micropore paper tape cut to approximately 4.5" long. I then center the baby wipe strip onto the sticky side of the tape. I try to match the baby wipe strip so that it covers my lips. Then I stick this to my face. By using the baby wipe strip, the tape can not stick to my tender lips. I also sometimes reinforce the baby wipe strip with 1" wide micropore cloth tape. I use two 2 strips to basically cover the baby wipe strip.
The whole process can be a real pain to do each night. I have been doing this for about 6 years. It does work for me. One other thing, before I apply the tape to my mouth, I always wash and dry the mouth area with soap to remove any oils from my face. This helps the tape to stick to my face. I can't tell you when I have last awaken with the dry mouth that one gets from mouth breathing.

Is using a full face mask a option. I love my Mirage Quattro.

Re: Solution for open-mouth sleeping?
Can you breathe through your nose?
If you have congestion, try some nasal cleansing/irrigation before bedtime to open up your nasal passages.
What heated humidity setting are you using?
If you're using some level of heated humidity, try turning it down or off.......and using cooler "passover" humidification.
Train your tongue to stay to the roof of your mouth during the night, too.
And, or, get a full face mask! At least you're not going to lose your therapy air that way.

Hi, zonker. Well, I've used the Scunci headband across me marf for the last two nights and, so far, I'm pretty happy with the results. I'm EXTREMELY happy in the morning when I don't have to yank skin off my face removing that miserable tape!! The previous wounds are actually healing! Still using the chin strap also to keep the jaw shut. I'm going to continue with this method for a while to get a bigger sample size, but the early indication is that this might be a workable solution.
Thanks for the tip!

HA!! Not British, but I love everything about the British, to the point of doing a lousy job of trying to talk like them!! I'll never forget a poem in my high school English lit book, 'Epitaph on a Marf'. I remember it to this day.....zonker wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2019 8:40 pmdang it! i'm on the road and i don't have my gifs with me.jon.koelker wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2019 9:36 am
