back to square one

Post by danis » Mon Sep 30, 2019 9:27 am

Hi All

I started CPAP a few months ago, and had very good results for last 3-4 months. Lots of energy during the day to exercise etc.

From last 3 weeks, it looks like I am back to square one. Tired all day and am getting only 2-3 hours of sleep in the night. Sometimes not even that much. I started wearing fitbit, and that's telling me I am not sleeping well and I can feel that too that I am up for most if the night. Resmed myair app thinks I am sleeping well, and gives me close to 100 score every day, but fitbit knows / tells me i am not sleeping.

Most nights for last 2-3 weeks, I get sleep for first 2 hours after I go to bed and then I am up for the remainder of the night with on & off sleep cycle - which doesn't last for more than a few minutes in sleep.
Where do I start the diagnosis? Can this be bad CPAP equipment or some other cause? (I haven't changed my mask and tube for over 3 months, but I think they are not broken and may not need a change?)

Thanks for any help / pointers.

See your doctor.
It could very well be something else.
Using cpap does not make us immune to other problems.
Are you still using the original cushion/pillows to your mask?
They do wear out--you need not replace the whole mask--just the cushion or pillows.

Can you think of any weight related or hormonal reasons to account for changes? Any new meds?

Could be insomnia. I am lucky enough to have insomnia and sleep apnea. Masks do wear out. Is it still sealing well? Good luck. When you find what the problem is please let us know. It may help someone else.

Hi Danis

Can you fill out your profile with your machine and mask? Next would be sharing screen captures of a night using Oscar. Since your machine isn't listed on your profile, I don't know if Oscar would work for you. Maybe you're having leaking problems, or possibly your maximum pressure is too low. Any and every suggestion though, is a SWAG (Scientific Wild *ssed Guess) until there is some data.

Of course the first go-to is to make sure your treatment is effectively treating your sleep apnea. Your machine data may hold some clues. Do you have a copy of your sleep study report? Maybe it could hold some clues. Are you on any new meds? Is there anything about your wakeups you could describe that might prompt some insight?
