How does one make their cpap quieter?

Post by rxcpap » Sat Dec 09, 2006 6:07 pm

I am a new cpap user and find the noise generated by my cpap machine keeps me awake at times. I was wondering if anyone had developed some type of ventilated encloser that would somewhat deaden the noise generated? I know my machine is a quiet one, and I am not really blaming the machine, it's just that I would like it more if it were quieter. At times, I just flop a pillow on top of it and that seems to help. I keep the filter open to the air of course.

I use a Resperonics REMstar Plus M series with a heated humidifier and a comfort gel mask.

Thanks for any input, this is a great informative site.

you could try putting it in a wooden box or inside the nightstand might help, but if you are using a noisy mask it won't matter you still have the exhaust noise to deal with. Higher your pressure is the more noisy machine will be.

Putting it under the bed would help but you want to keep dust from clogging the rear filter.

Ok, thanks for the reply. Is any mask quieter than another?

I used ear plugs and have for years. They work great.

The exhaust on that mask tends to be noisy, the best solution is background noise added, I use nature sounds all night, or white noise. Jim

I've always run a fan at night anyway, so I never hear it. You might think about a fan, it's continuous noise, not the modulating sort of noise like the cpap machine. It drowns it out completely.

My Soyala mask is extremely quiet. I notice machine noise more with less mask noise. So gain one, lose another.

I also have used the comfort classic mask. They all seem to be noisey from the description of your machine you should have a ramp feature on it
Try setting the Ramp on your cpap machine.

Good luck
