Long time CPAP, looking for pointers

Post by Bonder » Tue Sep 24, 2019 2:30 pm

I have been on CPAP for around 15 years now, always fixed pressures. My last prescription was for 14cm. I recently purchased a AirSense 10 for her autoset to replace my AirSense 10 brick. I am still using it in CPAP mode, and have been waking up tired. My numbers look good to me, but maybe you all might see something I don't. I am also looking for some pointers for switching to auto mode. I was thinking of doing Min 12 max 15 (my wife told me I was snoring before getting the new machine). But maybe I am out to lunch on that.

How many hours of sleep are you getting most nights.
The above report shows 5 hours and 41 minutes of machine use and you probably had some time there while you were awake.
I can guarantee that if I only got 5 hours and 40 minutes of real sleep I am going to be dead tired the next day.
Simply not enough hours of sleep even if it was perfect sleep.

So how many hours of actual sleep are you averaging?
How many times do you wake up during those hours?
Do you take any medications of any kind? If so, what?

I normally try to get about 6 during the weekdays, 8 or so on the weekends.

My wife has told me I am snoring some again this week. Not sure why.

Generally that means "pressure's too low".

That is what I was thinking. Here is a newer Oscar output. I was thinking of going to auto mode, just not 100% sure on what pressure range to start with. Does anyone have suggestions?

You don't want a drastic lower starting point (minimum in apap mode) just in case you will feel air starved.
You could maybe get by with lower but I would start close to what you are using now and just set the max to 20 and see what the machine wants to do.

So maybe 12 or 13 minimum with 20 max in apap mode. You might not need so much minimum but you can always reduce it slowly if you want to try it.

If you do a sudden big drop from the 14 you are using you might feel like you are suffocating.

When switching to autoset mode from fixed, I generally recommend setting the min pressure at what the fixed pressure was (so, 14) and then set max at 20.

Then if the pressure doesn't go up any, or very little, drop the min by one, and repeat. This keeps from having a bad night because the pressure is too low.
