Aerophagia questions & recommendations..

Post by Gryhnd » Sat Sep 21, 2019 12:34 pm

This forum has been a God send to me? You are all so helpful...and I am seeing results from your recommendations! I first posted several months ago, and have made changes per your recommendations. I am now being bothered by aerophagia. My AHI has been 0.0 the last two nights, and has been lower than 1 for most of my time on CPAP. I have had my machine set to APAP since 9/1, and experimented with low & high pressures. Now set at low of 10 & high of 14, which it doesn't go that high...normally about 12-13. But I now am being troubled by gas & bloat. I am sleeping better, and average 8 hours per night. I will try to attach a report...but had a lot of difficulty (even with all your help) when tried several months ago.

I got my report posted!! FYI I do have my ramp on starting at 8cm for 10 minutes. Should I turn it off and lower my pressure to 9? I did have a problem with large leaks, which after several months, I got under control with mouth taping & a scunci, and found where the hose that goes into the machine was turned a bit...so last two nights leaks have substantially decreased. I am still tired, but is improving with better sleep hours. Now to get the bloating & gas under control.... Thank you all!!!!

You are already using EPR at 3 it looks like and that's as much as it can give you in terms of exhale relief which is the first thing we look at for aerophagia reduction.
About the only thing left is to go down with the minimum pressure a bit and see if a lower minimum EPAP will keep the aerophagia monster away and not allow too many apnea events to happen.
Sometimes we have to make a compromise...allow maybe a handful of events to happen with a lower minimum pressure if it also lets us not have to suffer with aerophagia issues.

Sleeping on my right side I never get aerophagia but sleeping on my left I get it moderately then sleeping on my back I get it where I am burping all day.

Not saying this will help you but I'm sure trying to see if sleeping on certain side helps can't hurt.

I do sleep on my right side, as I have back issues. Should I lower my min pressure to 9 or go back to my original of 8 or experiment in between? Thanks in advance!!!

Your choice as to what you want to do but I would start with lower...like the 8 and then work up only if needed and the belly issues stay away at the same time.
Your machine might want to go higher because of the flow limitations but this is one of those situations where the FLs are a smaller problem than the aerophagia is a problem.
