Voice Changes, Hoarseness

Post by jagstyles » Wed Sep 11, 2019 8:13 am

I did read several of the other threads but wondering for those that suffered from this issue, were you able to determine whether it was from your CPAP or from other issues like GERD? I do have GERD but it's treated with medication and recently had a scope done which was completely normal. I have my humidity setting at 5 but still notice an extremely dry mouth even though I use a nasal pillow mask and my mouth is shut. I just purchased a chin strap to rule out my mouth opening in the middle of the night but the changes in my voice are quite noticeable now and often times it will even crackle when speaking from time to time forcing me to try and clear my throat.

Curious what others have been able to determine as I'd like to get a handle on this.

Thanks

Turns out, I was nearly shaking pictures off the wall.

A chin strap will not stop mouth breathing.
You can still breath through your teeth.
Try it. Close your mouth and breath out.
Will whistle right on through your teeth

A mere five minutes of mouthbreathing will badly dry out the mouth. You could easily mouthbreathe this long several times during the night and not be aware of it.

About that humidity setting, CPAP humidifiers are designed to prevent nasal passage dryness. They do a poor job of preventing mouth dryness.
