I have been using the Dreamstation AutoCPAP for a couple of years to good effect (increasing the pressure on the Dreamstation from 6 to 8 did wonders, thanks, Pugsy and Palerider!). But was worried about the machine being slow to respond. Following many posts and recommendations here I got an Airsense10 Autoset and use it now since about a week. My AHI dropped instantly from about 2 to less than 0.5. I don't feel particularly much better, which is too bad. But the real trouble is that my mouth gives out to the pressure and my lips make a continuous rrrrrrrrrrrrrr sound which keeps my wife awake. So my question is: is it known that the Resmed algorithm gives lower AHI numbers than the Respironics algorithm?
Since I bought the Resmed at cpap.com as recommended here, I can still return it!
THANKS for all opinions! (and yes, I still have Dreamstation in my profile)
Is AHI similar on Dreamstation vs Airsense 10?

Re: Is AHI similar on Dreamstation vs Airsense 10?
Often people need more pressure with the Respironics auto adjusting mode than with the ResMed auto adjusting mode.
I found that to be the case when I changed.
I needed a minimum of 10 cm on the Respironics auto but I can get by quite nicely with 7 minimum on the ResMed (even with EPR of 3 thrown in).
Maybe try a little lower minimum and see if the unwanted noise abates????
At least before you give up on the machine...

I will try going down from 8 to 6 (maybe increase the EPR? I am now at EPR 1)Pugsy wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2019 4:15 pmOften people need more pressure with the Respironics auto adjusting mode than with the ResMed auto adjusting mode.

Any thoughts on the comparison between AHI measured in different machines? I know its different and secret algorithms, but am just wondering whether anybody who switched in either direction got the impression that Airsense gives lower readings that Dreamstation?

In terms of flagging of events to maybe affect the AHI....only the hyponeas have a small difference in criteria to earn a flag.
One is at least 40 % flow reduction that lasts at least 10 seconds and the other is at least a 50 % reduction. Not enough difference to really make that much of a difference I don't think.
And I don't remember which one is 40 and which one is 50.
OAs have the same criteria for both brands.....at least 80% reduction in air flow.
Everything has to last at least 10 seconds with both brands.
You could add more EPR if you like. You might find that you like it. It's a bit different than Flex on the Respironics.
You get a per cm drop with EPR per setting choice unlike the Respironics which is based on how forcefully you breathe and the most you can get is a 2 cm reduction at a setting of 3 and that's only if you are a strong breather.
I think the biggest factor in the difference in AHI between the brands is the different algorithms though. ResMed responds faster than Respironics.

So if it were just me, I should go with the machine that produces the lower AHI. However, living with someone, I need to also consider the Partner Sleep Index (PSI). Whether the right combo is at 50:50 or 10%AHI and 90%PSI will vary ....
