Now here's a wild DME visit.

Post by rvguy » Thu Dec 07, 2006 2:18 pm

I just went to my new DME to pick-up equipment and after some small talk the RT brought out a new basic M-series. I said that they were supposed to have a new Pro-M or Pro-2. She said she was sorry and then went and brought in a Pro-2 with humidifier sealed in the box. She changed the serial numbers on the paperwork, I signed and away I went. Now, this machine has not yet been set up... Luckily my wife is an RT and all the manuals are here, but can you believe it, they sent me out with a factory fresh machine without any set-up!!

I'm not complaining because I have everything and I wasn't thrilled about the Pro-M.

Cheers,
Paul

That's really wierd!

Did you ask them about going through the setup or ask them any questions about operating the unit?

What was the reason for getting the new unit?

Maybe since you've already been on it for a while now and if you didn't ask anything they thought you were good to go?

I dunno. Sounds wierd. I know we still go through everything even if we are switching someone out for the 50th time and everyone else I know does too.

Mattman

I'm changing insurance on Jan. 1 and this is one of the approved providers for my new and current insurance. I don't think she realizes that the prescribed pressure wasn't set or that she didn't take out the clinical manual. She knew that I've only been doing this a couple of months but she also knows my wife is an RT.

I would be so happy if I were you. You have everything that comes in the box including the manuals.

You know your settings, so it will take you 5 minutes to punch them in.

Great!!!!!!

I called a dsm yesterday to ask about prices of the resperonics cpap verses the resperonics auto cpap. The dsm couldn't understand what I mean't by auto. I tried everything to describe the difference between apap and cpap. Finally, he looked it up in his computer and found the resp auto plus and said something about yes we have the auto. I was just stumped that he didn't have the knowledge level. I'm just saying it's so so important for us to do our own education on equipment, therapy, etc. One cannot rely on the dsm, doctor, or RT to know everything. Thus, they won't always make the best decisions for you. Stormin
