Nasal Mask

Post by janicedon » Fri Aug 16, 2019 7:22 am

Fairly new user to CPAP use & so far so good. My issue is the AirfitP10 Nasal Pillow. I've gone from small to medium and have daily nostril irritation. Is there a better nasal pillow that doesn't creep into the nostrils? I'm not a large person, so I believe the large pillow will not provide a adequate seal. Thank you for any suggestions. I can't go to a full face mask, and would prefer to find something more comfortable in the nasal pillow line.

Nasal pillow masks should NOT try to crawl up into the nostrils.
If that happens the size is too small or the straps are too tight.

Take a look at the mask I use (link in my profile)...see if it interests you. No headgear and nothing goes into the nose at all and can't.

Two masks you might consider are the Fisher & Paykel Brevida (really under-rated in my opinion) and the ResMed N30i/P30i.

I suspect the P30i nosepiece may cause the same issues with irritation you're experiencing with the P10, but the N30i seals very well for me. My only knock on it is that the headgear is more substantial and does seem to retain heat more than the minimal headgear of the typical nasal pillow masks. The N30i is currently my go-to mask.

The F&P Brevida was remarkably comfortable for me and is honestly probably my favorite and was the most comfortable mask for me. Unfortunately, there is something inherent in the design that exacerbates my aerophagia issues so I can't use it.

Have you tried something like the airfit N-20 ? It goes over your nose. I tried several pillow masks but find the nasal cushion more comfortable. It also comes in the "for her" sizing.

have you tried using some lansinoh (lanolin) to help with both the seal and the sore spots?

also, i agree with pugsy. p10 pillows should rest ON the nares, not up inside them.

good luck!
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

Take a look at the Dreamwear nasal mask. I really like it and there's nothing to crawl up your nostrils.
