I have another S9 autoset like my main machine. It is my travel machine and backup machine. Exact same settings, same feel and sound.

Many travel machines are louder, don't have a humidifier, and they just feel different. Not what I want when I am traveling.

Regular machines really aren't that large or heavy. I usually travel by car, but I have flown too. It wasn't a big deal to take my Autoset.

With travel machines, there's the noise, and the unfamiliarity.

When I'm 'on the road', I like my comfort factors to be both familiar and idiot-proof.

And after a 12-hour flight, I'm the idiot. I don't want to plod my way thru yet another device's 'logic'. I just want to set up my system from muscle memory, and get my head down.

Not to mention, by the time you pack the hose and the mask and the power transformer and the extension lead (vital additional item) and the wipes, the weight difference between a bag with all those plus, say, an 800gm travel machine and a bag with all those plus, say, a 1200gm ResMed AirSense 10 machine is not, to me, that significant.

It depends on your needs. If you are looking for a machine that is small and light so you can put it in your carry on bag, you may want to consider one of the travel units.
I have an HDM Z2 Auto CPAP. I actually used it as a backup unit for over a month while my main unit was out for repair.
It does a good job, but there are a few caveats:

1. It makes more noise than your normal unit. It may or may not bother you. The Z2 is improved vs. the older units, but there is still some noise. It can be masked in many ways. I put mine down inside a drawer of the nightstand with plenty of ventilation, and we were running the room A/C. WIth all that going on, noise was not a problem.

2. There is not any built in humidifier. There is a unit that attaches to your mask that captures the moisture in your exhaled breath. I did not bother with that, and I prefer humidity, but it's not a deal breaker for me.

3. It may feel a bit different than your main unit. I bump my pressure up a bit, and keep the ramp adjustment off to compensate for that. My sleep is comparable to my main unit.

The Z2 Auto is very portable. That was very important for me. I don't want to lug a separate item, or pack my main unit in checked luggage.
My Resmed unit could fit in my carry on if I don't travel with clothes...

Check out the board sponsor for purchase price. I think they still have the 30 day return policy. I suggest that you try it for a few nights before your trip if possible. If you like it keep it. If not... send it back, and pack your main unit.
