Hello! Newish and doing surprisingly ok, for now

Post by LunaTuna » Tue Aug 06, 2019 7:24 am

Hey hey everyone! I've been on my APAP for about a month now, and honestly? It's been stellar! I didn't have too many mask issues, only three tries to find a mask and that was mostly fine tuning, wasn't too hard to get used to sleeping with the hoses and all, because I was actually sleeping, instead of waking up to pee, or breath, or stare at the back of my hubby's head...In fact, he has his very own initial appointment with the sleep clinic later this month.
I'm 40, a hot mess of other health issues, I have some other sleep issues beyond the apneas and hypopneas, but really? I've just kinda been waiting for the other shoe to drop. I was lurking around here since I finally got my referral to the sleep center way back when, as I knew there was a problem, and I jumped from an ahi of 45.1 untreated to anywhere from .7 - 4.7 depending on the night treated, and it's amazing and I'm so grateful to y'all for the research and time you put in, so that I was able to go into this prepared.

Anyways, I'm sure that eventually that shoe will drop and I'll freak out about something, and I'll be reaching out for assistance from y'all who've been here doing this longer than I have, so again, thank you, and hello! :D

Congratulations on apparently taking to cpap therapy like a duck to water. Sometimes people do get lucky and it happens.
While it may appear like so many people have problems...the people who take to this therapy like a duck to water probably never make it to this forum because they don't have a need. They go merrily on their way and don't need help and never find us.

Some of us are able to start on CPAP with minimum difficulty. Others have a lot of problems.

I'm not sure exactly why, but I think sometimes the patients with severest cases have the easiest time.

This is good news. You may need to help your hubby thru issues that may crop with him.

It's usually the claustrophobia that is hard

If you find a way to make the inhaled air seem cool, it's much easier for newbies

so far, the hubby's biggest concern is potential hose tangling, which I explained is really a non-issue, but I'll be rigging guides up on the headboard to be safe. My biggest concern with both of us using xpap is what the cats will do, as it took until just this week for the most fearless of them to start approaching me when I've got my mask on. The exhaust port seems to freak them out.

A good hose cover could help keep cat claws away from the hose. The owner of padacheek is a member of this forum and makes very nice covers in a variety of colors. She will even make special colors if she has the material available. My wife and I both use hose covers made by her company and really like them. We run the hose up over the headboard of the bed and the covers keeps the ribs of the hose from making noise as it moves across the headboard.
