Seems to be losing pressure after switching to a full face m

Post by dr_k42 » Wed Dec 06, 2006 5:23 pm

Ok, used to have a Swift Nasal Pillows System. Mouth leaks became too much and even taping didn't help, so I switched to a Ultra Mirage Full Face Mask.
After the switch, it seems in the middle of the night, that the pressure is REAL low, almost to the point of nothing, and it wakes me up, almost as if the mask is off.
My pressure is set to 10, and I have no major mask leaks to speak of.
Please help.

Welcome to the forum!

I'm 99% sure that what you're experiencing is that you're getting used to the pressure. Happens to many of us and that subject comes up here alot. If you pull your mask slightly away from your face, I'm sure that you'll feel a rush of air.

Best wishes,

Not so much of a rush of air. That's what worries me. It takes a second or two for the "rush" to happen.
I was a member here about 6 months ago.... and somehow my account got deleted. Probably cause I only had about 10 posts.

I am also sure you are just getting used to the pressure. In fact, 18 months ago I noticed the same problem and asked the DME about it and they gave me a brand new machine. I went from a plus to an auto. Once I tried the new machine I discovered that I was just getting used to the pressure. This has probably happened to others. I don't think the lack of the sensation of pressure is waking you. I would suspect it something else, but the pressure is the first thing you notice.

Good Luck!!

If you purchased your machine from a local DME supplier, you could take it to them and see if it's putting out the proper pressure. There might be one that would do it for you even if you didn't buy it from them. There are also threads on this forum about how to make your own manometer......and CPAP.COM has one for about $50.

F&P HC431A user here (similar to your FF mask). Yup, very likely you're just getting very, very used to the pressure. This happens particularly well when you're using a CPAP not an APAP, meaning the pressure is *always* exactly the same.

Most mornings I wake up and am not even aware a mask is on my face till I reach up and touch it. Those times I *am* aware I have a mask on, it feels like no machine's attached to it. Then I stick a finger inside the seal, and suddenly there's a hurricane around it. =)

When I was using my 431 on a pressure of 15 I would wake up sometimes and feel panicked that my mask/machine wasn't working. Not true-both were fine but I was so used to a pressure of 15 that I wasn't noticing it. Pulled the mask away for second or two and was the CPAP was definitely working;I could hear it that way
