O2 monitors for nighttime wear

Post by Esme » Tue Aug 06, 2019 11:16 am

First, a quick background about me: I had a sleep study 2+ years ago because of frequent nighttime headaches. The result was AHI in the "moderate" range which would not have led to CPAP by itself. However, my O2 sat dropped below 80% at one point during the sleep test, and the doc thought it might be causing my headaches and that PAP therapy was worth a try. I've been on it faithfully for 2 years, AHI is good, but headaches have gotten worse - I am now getting them during the day.

I have no idea if my O2 sat is in a normal range or not, and would like to get one of those monitors that I can wear at night. Does anyone have a monitor that they would recommend? I see lots of inexpensive ones on Amazon, but don't know how they would work wearing them at night and do they store 8 hours of data. I've been looking at the "wearable" monitors like the "O2 Ring, Smart Ring Monitor" by Wellue. Does anyone know if it's good or gimmick? Open to any suggestions. Thanks!

You need an overnight recording pulse oximeter.
See here for some options and then shop EBay or Amazon for pricing options.

The CMS made by Contec is a decent brand.
Expect to spend anywhere between 40 and 100 dollars depending on which model you decide upon and where you get it.
Cheapest is often the slow boat from China off of EBay but sometimes you can find a deal for same model on Amazon and the Amazon seller has one already in the US.

Needs to record all night though...not just a spot check.

The ring you mention appears to be one that will record all night....pricey and I have never seen it before. Interesting but the price would be a deal breaker for me.
The CMS models are compatible with SleepyHead/OSCAR and will do the same thing for a lot less money.

Your money though and just wearing only a ring might be worth the money. Some of the other models require a little more stuff on your finger or wrist and wires.

Thank you, Pugsy! I'm all about saving money myself, glad to know I don't need to spend more than $100 to get a good one.
