Sleep apnea or insomnia?

Post by adawg » Fri Jul 19, 2019 6:53 am

I’ve been having a lot of insomnia lately and haven’t been able to figure out what the culprit is. For the past week it’s been taking hours...like sometimes over 5 hours for me to fall asleep. The only reason I’m weary it is sleep apnea and not insomnia is because before I was told I had sleep apnea I swore I had insomnia. The reason was because I woke up so many times I didn’t even notice I had fallen asleep. So now I can’t tell if I’m having constant sleep apnea episodes or insomnia.
Ok update: I just checked the myAir app and my apnea episodes are 1 or like 0.4 ever hour so I feel like it is insomnia??
Also wondering if since I got a concussion it’s giving me insomnia, anyone have this issue?

Insomnia can definitely result from a concussion. Insomnia from a concussion usually lasts a few weeks, but has lasted much longer in some cases.

Ask your doctor to see a neurologist who can sort all that out for you.

I second that--too many things can cause insomnia--some pretty nasty.

Your post got me to thinking and doing a bit of reading.
Insomnia can definitely be caused by some sort of TBI.
Sleep can be extremely fragile anyway and then add in how the brain reacts to any sort of injury...it would surprise me more if it didn't affect sleep.

Lots of available reading on the subject...these are just the tip of the iceberg
