Newbie here..made my first blunders last night

Post by deebatt » Sun Dec 03, 2006 2:02 pm

Oye i am so goofy sometimes. 2 weeks on CPAP and i think im adapting really well. Yesterday i did the major cleaning and de-crudding of all my "parts"..even did a little rearranging of the setup to make it look more comfy cozy and user friendly. I was even thinking to myself yesterday that " hey this isnt that bad, the machine is tolerable and i can sleep pretty darn well. I was even thinking of how quiet the machine is (after reading some posts and comments about the noise)

WELLLLLLL i guess i got too big for my own britches. Last night i just could not get to sleep, i tossed and turned and couldnt doze off so i hit the ramp button on my sleep buddy. No go, still wasnt working. It was so gawsh awful noisy....i thought maybe i cleaned my swift nasal pillow and hoses TOO well (hah thats a joke for me). I kept fiddling with my nasal pillow and tubing, rolling around to get comfy.but still too much noise and air. GO figure, i hadnt noticed any of that before so after about an hour or so i got up, turned on the light and pulled off my mask.

Wouldnt you know it...i spring my very first leak . I didnt have my nasal pillow all the way set into the little grooves on the side and i had a major blowout of air causing the noise. Duuuuuuuuuh for an educated girl i sure was stupid...took me over an hour to figure it out. NOW i know

Only took you that long? That's pretty darn good!

It's true, every time you disassemble and reassemble mask components you run the risk of not getting everything seated properly. I don't do much disassembling at all... mostly clean things as put-together as I can keep them.

Congratulations for having the tenacity to figure it out and not giving up! It doesn't have so much to do with being an educated person as it does with gaining experience.

As for your other post about your sleep study; yes, you have a right to get a copy of it and you should. It will tell you a lot about the type of events you experienced and how frequently. This will assist you in tweaking your therapy as time goes by and you analyze your data (if you decide to get the software and view your nightly results).

Consider it a learning experience. Can guarantee you won't make that mistake again

Loved the post, Dee - I'm also supposedly a highly intelligent human, a hosehead veteran of almost three weeks now.

In week one, I tolerated a loud "farting" noise, then an obnoxious whistling noise from my machine. I thought "if this is one of the quietest CPAPs on the market, I'd hate to hear the noisy ones...".

After putting up with these noises for two nights, I got up in the wee hours that third night to go to the head. When I came back, no more than semi-conscious, I for no apparent reason pressed down on the front of my humidifier cover - it latched! No more rude noises! I hadn't fully closed the dumb thing two nights in a row!

Obviously my semi-conscious version is way smarter than my fully conscious version - something I've long suspected!
