Front Teeth moving? Dental Problems?

Post by billyh » Tue Dec 05, 2006 10:17 am

I have been using the Respironics ComfortClassic mask successfully for about ten months. Recently I noticed that my front teeth seem to have moved inward slightly. It is most noticeable in the morning and the teeth return to a more normnal position by the end of the day.

The problem is not overtightening of the mask. I'm trying the new gel mask as well as the Mirage nasal pillow, with limited success.

Has anyone else had problems with their teeth? any suggestions?

Several CPAPtalkers have had related dental problems; I'm one of them. If my FF mask is too tight, I get dental pain. That's the usual problem. Maybe just the weight of your mask is causing your teeth to shift, even if your straps aren't too tight?

If if continues to bother you or you start getting misalignment problems, you might consider a dental splint, like a retainer worn on the upper teeth. I've had one for years for TMJ and teeth grinding. Works great, even with various masks. You can get it custom fitted from your dentist or a prostodontist.

pressure from the mask does push thing around some, that's how braces work.

You could alternate with a FF Mask, they push your Jaw back instead. The good side of your teeth moving is eventually your wisdom teeth will be in front and will be easier to pull. Jim

you are tightening the straps too much if it is moving your teeth (not good, screws up your bite real bad), you may not have a choice however, those masks tend to leak the gel will leak less than the classic if you boil it and fit it properly then it is not bad other than remaining noisy, still requires more strap pressure than other masks. They are cheap masks, why they are popular.

If you want a better mask than the gel check out the Somnotech Soyala, it will seal better than the gel with LESS strap pressure. In fact, the headgear is streatchy and it seals without being fully extended.
