Philips Debuts Facial Analysis Algorithms for Better CPAP Mask Choices
Philips Debuts Facial Analysis Algorithms for Better CPAP Mask Choices
This is a long time coming! Instead of finding the right mask by trail end error, this intent of this methodology is to take measurements and use a formula to get the right mask the first time. Getting it right the first time will help make new patients more compliant; not to mention reduce costs.
The caveat is that the software is proprietary to Phillips, and would likely be "biased" in favor of their masks.

Reminds of a news story last wk re airport facial recognition machines and how many legal types and others are questioning if they should be used at all... privacy and otherwise. I don't want to live in 1984!

Everytime I see Vinny V's picture and hear about his mask fitting problems, I think to myself, that's what you get for lopping your ear off.ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2019 12:16 pmFor some reason that struck me as funny. There's a vision of you sitting in a windowless room alone for twenty minutes. Then suddenly, eleven people surround you and begin working on you.
Good luck getting out with everything intact!
I do wish him the best, I know he's been struggling.

But what if your perfect mask is made by Eson or Resmed?Jonathan Grashow, senior staff engineer at Philips Respironics, says, “This is really powerful because it allows us to extract the critical facial geometry for each one of our masks and it allows us to do mask recommendation in sizing, not just from a few dimensions taken off the face, but based on the size, shape, and curvature of the face, and as we look toward the future, you can see how this really sets the stage for custom masks.”

I did address that in the original posting when in mentioned "biased." Would it recommend a a competitors mask, and least in the most compelling case? If it would, what about other cases?djams wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2019 7:52 pmBut what if your perfect mask is made by Eson or Resmed?Jonathan Grashow, senior staff engineer at Philips Respironics, says, “This is really powerful because it allows us to extract the critical facial geometry for each one of our masks and it allows us to do mask recommendation in sizing, not just from a few dimensions taken off the face, but based on the size, shape, and curvature of the face, and as we look toward the future, you can see how this really sets the stage for custom masks.”
