CAmping, What is the best Cpap machine? 2019

Post by dingdang » Wed Jun 05, 2019 8:07 am

I have read many posts about batteries but what is the best camping cpap machine that is going to give the most time per ah? pressure of 12cm

I am looking for a 12 volt system, I can camp with for a week on battery with zero or one recharge...not solar...using smallest battery.

I have a AGM 35ah battery and Paxcess PA100.

With Paxcess PA100, I only get 5hrs using Airsense 10 with everything turn off...looking to get 8hrs

I really dont want to take the Airsene 10 into the woods...Used machine would be OK... Will be camping 20 nights a year ASM.

Thanks

Here is what I have found
ResMed AirSense 10 is 24volt @ 16cm = 15ah, 1.23 amp
The Resmed converter will step up from 12 volt to 24 volt with only negligible loss

Resmed S9 AutoSet is 24volt @ 16cm = 11Ah, .9 amp

PR System One REMstar AUTO 560 is 12volt

DeVilbiss IntelliPAP AutoAdjust model DV54D is 12volt

PAXCESS 40800mAh 151Wh
40800 x 3.7 150.960 watt hrs = 12 ah

PAXCESS Generator Portable Power Station- 280Watt / 67500mAh
67500mAh x 3.7 = 249.750 watt hrs = 20 ah

Mighty Max Battery ML35-12 - 12V 35AH U1 Deep Cycle AGM Solar Battery = 35 ah

if a cpap runs on dc at 4ah then, ipso facto

paxacess 40800 @ 12ah = 2.4 nights

paxacess 67500 @ 20ah = 4 nights

agm @ 35ah = 7 nights

The question... what cpap runs at 4ah dc to dc???

It looks like you found ResMed battery guide. Unfortunately Respironics does not have a similar guide, but I carefully measured the usage of my old Respironics 560 and its 0.5 amps, or 4 AH per night, at pressure 10. I haven't measured my new Dreamstation as fully but it appears to be about the same. I might guess at pressure 12 it will be a bit higher, maybe 5 amp hours per night.

If your goal is to maximize the time of a battery, the Respironics offering will do much better; if you want to stay with ResMed you might look for an older S9 which is almost as efficient as the Respironics.

On the battery side make sure you leave a margin - AGM should only be run to about 20%. Lithium packs are more forgiving but you probably don't want to take them to zero.

So i'm going to buy a USED remstar plus because it looks pretty small and comes with 12 volt cord.

Battery set up with all wires and 18AH battery was 72 bucks. going to car camp so I can charge everyday.

Used remstar plus is $150. It looks like it will run without humidifier attached and be pretty compact.

this sound like im on right track? $225 for camping set up. I can always add bigger battery later.

(PS just practicing now to learn what I need for 3 week MC trip in September.)

Hi Pdrhound,

I have a SystemOne basic CPAP that pulls 0.5amp per hour at 10cm pressure. A fully charged 18 ah battery provides 14.4 amp hours if you go to 20% of capacity. If your Remstar Plus has similar power requirements at your required pressure you may be able to get 3 nights from a new battery.

Only question is what do you plan to use to charge the battery from your car and at how fast a rate? Most chargers require AC current so you would need an inverter also.

Note that you will need to run your car when recharging to avoid risk of overly draining your starter battery.
