DreamWear mask cleaning
DreamWear mask cleaning
I've been using the DreamWear pillow mask for a few months. I clean it regularly but notice a white layer of something in the mask frame now. If I press on the frame, the stuff "moves."
I am wondering if anyone else has noticed this. I also use a SoClean 2, so I wonder if pumping ozone through the tubing is causing this. Thank you.

i have NO idea what this "white layer" is. perhaps other, smarter-than-i folks will show up to comment.
good luck!

It's kind of you to give this warning about SoClean. It may get ugly.zonker wrote: ↑Sat May 25, 2019 11:19 am

Re: DreamWear mask cleaning
My son has a dreamwear frame and we’ve never had any buildup of anything inside his frame. I don’t have a SoClean and have no idea whether or not it could cause the buildup. To get rid of the buildup you might try soaking the frame in a vinegar water mix. If you have a small bottle or straw scrub brush that will fit inside the frame tape some soft cloth over the brush bristles and scrub inside the frame. After you clean and rinse the frame attach a new dry cloth to the scrub brush and use it to dry the inside of the frame.
It can’t be healthy to be breathing air all night long after it’s traveled thru a frame that is contaminated with an unknown white moveable substance. If you can’t get it clean it might be time for a new frame.

Re: DreamWear mask cleaning
I have the same problem with two frames!!!!!
I don't even own a soclean -- I soak in hot water with a few drops of dawn. I don't do vinegar soaks. I alternate masks. One on the machine, one being cleaned.
It's very odd, for BOTH of the frames the residue is on the right side of the frame tube -- where the frame lays on the cheek and connects to the mask. I sleep mostly on my left side.
I've tried putting dawn inside the tube and soaking/flushing with HOT water but it's like a greasy-ish white residue when you compress the tube between your fingers it moves. I cant tell if its bacteria, or the plastic disintegrating.
Do you use a nasal mask or full face? I use the full face.

Re: DreamWear mask cleaning
Thanks for the information. I use nasal pillows. I'm switching from Dreamwear to Resmed's P30i, which is their counterpart, to see if it is more comfortable. I think that I will try it without the SoClean machine to see if the same thing happens. Perhaps the issue is endemic to the type of mask where the headgear is part of the oxygen delivery system. It just might be that it is impossible to clean the headgear on Dreamwear/P30i types as well as the more traditional masks. I say this because the Dreamwear nasal pillows never had any residue, but that piece is easy to clean thoroughly.

Re: DreamWear mask cleaning
I have been using Dreamwear for a year now and have never experienced what is being described by the OP. I normally clean my frame and pillow in lukewarm water with Dawn dish detergent weekly, or if I'm being lazy, every two weeks.
Where in the frame is the white mass located?

Re: DreamWear mask cleaning
The gunk is in the piece that Phillips calls the mask frame: that is, the piece that comes down the side of the face and connects to the cushion or pillow piece. It is on both sides of the face, but not on/in the pillow piece.
Re: DreamWear mask cleaning
I've been using a Dream Wear mask for a long time and almost never clean it. I like to live on the wild side.
Nothing in my frame. Do you have hard water? Could it be mineral deposits from water from cleaning?

Re: DreamWear mask cleaning
The only time hard water has gone through the mask is when I clean the pieces. I use distilled water in the machine itself. I got new equipment today, so I'll slice open the old frame and see what it is.
Re: DreamWear mask cleaning
Hope this is still active post!
I just now took my Full Face dream wear mask and noticed this white film in the head gear at the top part where your hose connects to the mask on both sides. I use distilled water in my humidifier and wash it every time I use it and hang it up to dry. What is this film and how in the world am I to clean it out (scrub) when I can't get into those little areas?
