Purchase decision

Post by prandelicious » Wed Jun 05, 2019 8:24 pm

I'm about to buy my first CPAP machine and I'm currently torn between purchasing it online (abroad) or sourcing it from a local distributor.
  • The price difference between online and local is around 28% including shipping, handling, and taxes.
  • Online provides a 2-year limited manufacturer warranty
  • Local provides a 2-year replacement warranty.
Do you think it's worth the risk to purchase it online (cheaper) or is it wiser to just purchase it locally? I'm looking at the Philips Dreamstation with humidifier and heated tubing.

Look at the Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset instead... superior performance.

Make sure to get an APAP, preferably ResMed.

Basically they all have two years. If you need replacement they will give you a rebuilt failed unit, and not restart your warranty time. Jim

Yep. That's why I'm here :D

If I purchase it online and it breaks down for whatever reason, I'd have to ship it back to the reseller and would probably wait for about 20-30 days to get a unit back. So I've made the decision to purchase it locally so if I don't have to wait a long time to get a replacement unit.

I've also reconsidered and will now purchase the ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet unit instead of the Respironics Dreamstation. I've also made inquiries with a local supplier and was able to get a reduced price making the price difference between online and local purchase to just under 12% We will be getting the unit today so hopefully it's going to be good sleep tonight with the new unit.

Thank you all!

GOOD choice. Difference between getting it sooner, and quicker repair if you ever need that is huge.

You've made at least two good decisions IMO. I can tell you are a take-charge person. Good luck!

Now that I have the unit, it won't send data to ResMed's myAir service because the unit outside the U.S.A. Is there a way I can send the data to myAir by using a Toshiba Flashair SD card or do you suggest ditching myAir and use OSCAR or Sleepyhead instead?

I’m new to xPAP myself - I have found MyAir to be about as close to useless as any app I have ever seen. OSCAR on the other hand, provides useful, interesting data that you, and others here can use to help maximize therapy benefits. MyAir seems to be more of a cheering squad urging you to be compliant (as defined by the insurance industry).

Ditching myAir then. Thanks!

Myair is useless when trying to improve your therapy, all it's good for is not having to look at the machine itself.

Did you know that the stuff that MyAir shows can easily be seen on the machine's LCD screen?
That's all that MyAir does...show you what you can already see on the machine's screen. Big whoopie.
As the others have said...get the software so you can see the real details instead of summary numbers.
