Chin strap question!

Post by bernieb » Mon Jun 03, 2019 2:00 pm

Since going on my new ASV a few weeks ago, I am experiencing more leaking due to higher pressures forcing my mouth open while using pillows or cushions. I did not have any luck with both FFM's that I have so just switching between dreamware cushions, P-10 pillows and N30 cushions. I have five different chin straps and have found the Respironics Deluxe chinstrap to be the best for me but I don't feel good about putting it over the N30 or dreamware frames because it seems to me like it squeezes the frame and cuts down on the amount of air. Not sure if the machine compensates for this or not but to avoid problems I am putting the headgear on OVER the chin strap even though that is not what is recommended by Respironics nor is it the way they told me to use it at my recent sleep studies. This also creates easier slippage of the headgear. Of course, I am able to put the chin straps over the P-10 without any problem but it seems like I get more leaks with the P-10 pillows primarily because I am more comfortable with the hose above my head as the two cushion frames have. In any event, I am open to any suggestions. This has not had a great effect on my reported AHI's as since I received my new machine in mid-May I have only had two nights with AHI's greater than 2.0, which I am very happy with.

ever try a firm foam cervical collar instead of a chin strap?
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

I use the p10 pillows and tried the dr dakota collor but found it gave me sore teeth, this could be because it is the wrong size im not sure, i got a chin strap yesterday from amazon and i put it on first then put my mask on over it and it seems to be working good so far. you could also try taping you mouth along with the chin strap, might help.
