Mirage Swift Nasal Pillow leaks?

Post by Sperls41 » Sat Dec 02, 2006 4:33 pm

I'm asking all my questions in succession, so sorry for my redundancy if these are daily topics...I just can't seem to find what I'm looking for when I do a search, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask...

The part of the system that is where the 'bridge' and nostil holes are, has a "venting" system. It just seems like a lot of air is coming out of this vent continuously. Is this normal, or should I be following up with my Dr. on this? Also, should it be at the top or bottom of the "bridge" or piece? Thank you in advance.

Cheers,
Ian

yup... air comes out of those vents continuously. That's normal. One of the things being accomplished there is that the CO2 that you exhale is being flushed out of that tube so you don't rebreathe it. If it's blowing away from you rather than AT you then you have it assembled correctly.

Vents

Post by GoofyUT » Sat Dec 02, 2006 5:15 pm

Those vent holes are designed in to allow you to vent of carbon dioxide at appropriate rates and prevent rebreathing of CO2. depending on your pressure, there IS quite a torrent of air exitting from those holes on the Swift, and many complain of the noise associated with that, though I have not had any difficulty with it and I LOVE the Swift!!!!!

The vent holes should be on top of the slider, with the air stream blowing AWAY from you. That's important since the pillows are crafted to fit properly in your nares ONLY when the barrel is put on the frame such that the vent holes are on TOP.

Resmed has launched a new version of the Swift, called the Swift II in certain of its non-US markets, with the vent holes integrated into the SLIDER. Its reported that they have also reduced the bias rate (the rate of that exhaust venting) on the Swift II, in part to reduce the associated noise. It's reported to be due for release here in the US in the spring-time.

It's a WONDERFUL interface system, and I hope that it does as well for you as it has for me!!!

Cheers!

I received a flyer about it a few days ago in the post (I don't recall if it was from Resmed or Air Liquide), but anyway there is now in active promotion of the Swift II going on in the Australian market.

Cheers,

Bill

the RT at my DME told me (for the holes) to remember to "Blow Up" like a blow up doll.
