Wrong Wrong Wrong; news paper article

Post by purple22 » Sun Jun 02, 2019 9:36 am

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/27/well ... e-e.-brody

From the article: "The condition is on the rise because the most frequent cause is obesity,"

Any of you folks want to tell the author the truth?

The best thing to do would be stop paying them! Jim

That also means clicking on anything they put on the internet. Tell your friends to do the same and why.

Clickbait?
Always look for the "sponsored" notation. (It means rabbit hole to advertising/rotten cookies)

Yes, wrong wrong wrong indeed. So unfortunate that there is so much BS about OSA. I believed this garbage when I was first diagnosed and lost a whole bunch of weight to try to improve my OSA. Guess what? I still use my CPAP because nothing can change the size of my tongue and the hormonal changes of menopause that added the final push into OSA, in fact weight loss might well make things worse with the flabby tissue and lower estrogen levels due to lower body weight.

I am 4ft 11" and weigh 108 pounds and I have moderate OSA.

The thing that really worries me is the danger posed by this sort of article that creates a totally false sense of assurance that if one isn't obese/overweight one isn't likely to have OSA. Such misinformation.

My BMI is 19.5. Gramps is 22.5. We both have severe OSA. However, this statement,
"The condition is on the rise because the most frequent cause is obesity,"
,

may still be correct.

The NYT used to be a respected publication.
Now, it is nothing but a yellow rag!
