Emergency- part needed
Hello everyone,
Last night, I discovered that my CPAP machine was not working. Upon closer examination, I see that it's because of a totally exposed and frayed wire near the port of the battery pack. While being unable to use a CPAP machine is not ideal for any OSA sufferer, the kicker is: I'm currently 10 weeks pregnant. Untreated, my OSA is severe. At my last sleep study, I had 57 apneas p/hr and my SO2 level was at 66%. It's BAD. I am extremely concerned that not being able to breathe properly will put my developing baby at risk, especially during the first trimester when life is fragile. I'm worried that not having a working CPAP (or any delay in getting one) might cause or contribute to an early pregnancy loss.
My machine is over 5 years old. I have the Resmed S9™ autoset Series H5i™ Heated Humidifier with Climate Control. Per my insurance, I became eligible for a new machine on 3/13/19, however, the last time I presented to my sleep doctor was in late July of 2018.
Naturally, I called my doctor first thing this morning. I explained the situation, but his staff informed me that he is out of the country until June 11 (of course my luck!). Without seeing my doctor, the staff is unable to send a script for a new machine to my DME because I haven't been in to see the doctor in 10 months.
So I started calling other sleep specialists in my insurance network to see if ANYONE could fit me into their schedule stat. I explained the situation to everyone. No one could confirm an appointment that was soon. Everyone scheduled me for an appointment 2-8 weeks out, and then explained that they would pass along my the details of my emergency/urgency to the doctor, and the doctor would decide whether he or she could squeeze me in (in which case they would get back to me)
Fast forward to the point of my post: DOES ANYONE HAVE A SPARE BATTERY CHARGER ON AN S9 AUTOSET THAT THEY'RE NOT USING? I'm willing to pay a reasonable price for it, and I would gladly reimburse you for overnight shipping- Paypal or Zelle. Someone trusted, please.
Desperate mama to be. Just trying to look out for my growing little nugget. I'm 35 years old, and my husband & I were so happy to be blessed with this life. I want to make sure it's protected.
Please an thank you!!!!

Re: Emergency- part needed
I wish I could help, but all I can offer is that replacement power supplies are available at retail - somewhere in the $60 range, but at least they are available. I assume that’s what you are talking about, since as far as know, there are no batteries to recharge.
Edit: if you just need the part that plugs into the wall socket, it’s only $13. It’s the big brick part that costs a lot. I looked on CPAP.com

I don't know if I'm calling it the right thing. The the black rectangle thing, with a cord that you plug into the wall and a cord that you plug into the machine. That's where the wire is busted, and that's what's making my machine not work.

Re: Emergency- part needed
Thanks. The cost of a brand new part is $60, but to get it shipped overnight is $127.22 (at the CPAP shop).
Was kinda hoping someone had an extra one laying around from their old machine who could help me out for cheaper. Especially since I'll have a script for a new machine (which will come with a new charging cable thing- or whatever you want to call it) in a few weeks. Just looking for something to tide me over, and not trying to spend almost $190 for it. Thanks!

Perhaps you can find a DME in Chicago with one in stock?

Crap. I don't remember which side it's on. If it's on the side of the wire that goes into the wall or the side of the wire that goes into the machine. I'll have to check when I get home from work later.NoOnesPerfect wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2019 2:13 pmEdit: if you just need the part that plugs into the wall socket, it’s only $13. Re: Emergency- part needed
I don't live in Chicago anymore. But I'll call my DME and see if they can cell me the part. They wouldn't see me the new machine without an updated script, but perhaps they can sell me the part. On the phone now. Thanks!prodigyplace wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2019 2:26 pmPerhaps you can find a DME in Chicago with one in stock?

Re: Emergency- part needed
Just so we know we are talking about the same thing and the frayed part of the wire is in the place we think it is.
You have the cord from the machine that goes to the power brick....and then you have another cord that goes from the brick to the wall outlet.
Is the frayed part between the brick and the machine or the brick and the wall outlet?
If it's from the brick to the wall outlet...any power cord will work. I have robbed many a laptop power cord from their bricks and had them work.
If it's frayed on the brick side next to the cpap machine you need another power cord/brick...and those are special.
This is the part you need
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... upply-cord
and it's not the same thing as the AirSense machines use.
Has to be for the S9 models..
Amazon has them...but be careful that you choose the correct one for the S9 model..it has 3 pins and that's important.
They have that wonderful Prime service.
If you will tell us where you are....one of the forum members may have one they will loan you until you can get one delivered to you.
You never know who might be in your area.

Re: Emergency- part needed
Local DME says they do NOT sell parts. Just entire machines (the whole set) and replacement supplies. But not individual parts.

Thank you!!! This was super helpful. I actually don't remember which side it's on, but I will check as soon as I get home (in another 90 min or so). And yes, I'm a Prime member so I will def check there if needed and make sure about the right prongs.Pugsy wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2019 2:31 pm...

Looks like it is too late to get them from Amazon for tomorrow. At least here in NY. They all seem to say Sunday delivery with Prime.

Re: Emergency- part needed
Most CPAP Prescriptions are Lifetime or 99 Months. with that prescription if you still have it you should be able to buy a machine about anywhere and some places ship overnight for free on a new machine. Or as others have said the cord might be avaliable through amazon or maybe even Walmart or Best Buy.
