Eye and sinus infections with CPAP use

Post by wannetta » Sat May 11, 2019 6:26 am

I have been having constant eye and sinus infections since using the CPAP machine even with cleaning everything often. Has anyone else had this problem? I am now afraid to use the machine because the eye and sinus problems are more of a problem than any benefits using the cpap machine will ever give me. So far I haven't seen much of a benefit - more problems than it is worth using it.

If you're having infections, you are under a doctor's care? For antibiotics? What did they say about using your CPAP?

Sorry about your difficulties. Are the infections self diagnosed or confirmed as a result of a medical work up? If self diagnosed, suggest medical intervention. Very unlikely that CPAP is causing infections. Allergies? I hope that you resolve your problems and feel better soon.

Is it possible you're having air leaks into your eyes from the mask (which would need readjustment or a different mask?

Are you using (or not using) the humidifier when either not needed in an already relatively humid climate/local environment, or very dry place on the wrong setting?

Cleaning must be followed by thorough rinsing--very thorough rinsing.
Soap residue can irritate and lead to the problems you mention.

I am going to stop using it until the eye and sinus problems are dealt with. Then I won't use it until I clean it completely first. Then I will know these problems are from using the cpap machine. I got one lot of antibiotics for a sinus infection - onto the second lot and it came back yet again. I have had sinus problems since using the machine and then the eye infections started

So....here is a suggestion only. Check the Rubber ring that connects AT your water tank and hose beginning. Mine was recently found to be moldy....causing me to have constant issues with sinus and eye/ear. Changed it and now NO mold in water chamber AND more importantly NO more infection or irritations.....
Hope this helps you.
My ENT specialist is now going to ask his Sinus Patients if they in fact use a CPAP machine.

It has been studied and concluded that 90% of people in car crashes of any kind ate carrots the week before the incident.
Therefore, eating carrots is a major cause of car crashes.
Right?

Apparently, you'd think the carrots would have *improved* eyesight, and thus reduced accidents.... But I guess not.

Oh, and another thing. During the Battle of Britain the English pilots ate so many carrots that their skin started to turn orange.
Some of them still got shot down by the Germans.
So you can not blame everything on cpap alone. It might be something altogether else.

For what it's worth... I used to have blocked sinuses regularly. The humidifier settings helps keep my AHI down, so I couldn't change that too much.
Got a neti pot with salt water, and it helps keep everything clean in there now, (almost) no more problems.

I highly recommend Xlear nasal spray. It contains Xylitol which starves pathogens and helps dissolve biofilms. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00 ... UTF8&psc=1
