Tape 'er up!

Post by kornazoo » Fri Dec 01, 2006 6:21 am

Well...

Last night I spent a bunch of time reading old posts. I'm 2 weeks into the CPAP.

Two nights ago I woke up with such a dry mouth that my lip was stuck to my teeth and my tongue was stuck to the roof of my mouth and I came pretty close to panicking until I could get some water.

So last night I taped. What a difference! Although I managed to create blow holes in the corners of my mouth, I never had dry mouth! What a blessing! I can't thank all of you enough for taking the time to help us newbies. Same questions over and over and over!

Other pluses were that my mouth relaxed. No clenching. Tongue aganist palate.

My husband says to send this message:

I don't move around like a mexican jumping bean all night.
I don't snore
I am disgustingly upbeat.
He now doesn't get enough alone time since I go to bed at 11 now and get up at 6

I think he's now so much more affectionate, since he's no saint and I have kept him up for many years now.

From my marathon readings last night I know that it is not a steady road, but I will take my good nights whenever I can get them. I know I can write and kvetch whenever I want!

So now that I have buttered you all up, I have one more question. I can't find the post on how to use the policrip. The tape is uncomfortable to pull off and it cuts into my beauty regime. And you know it's more important how you look than how you feel, dahlinks.

Aren't I obnoxious when I've finally had a good night's sleep?

My thanks again to all of you.
Shelley

I've experimented, successfully, with the poligrip strips. I cut the strip in half, with my finger, dampen both sides of the strips, place them on my lower lip, and close my mouth for a minute or so. I leave a small space in the center of my mouth between the two halves of the strip.

In the morning, the strip comes off easily. Moreover, in case of an emergency, it's not difficult to open you mouth if you want to.

Some of the best sleep I get is when I wear my nose mask, and I can't do it without taping my mouth shut. It definitely works, though. The other week I tried taking a nap in the evening with my nose mask and without taping my mouth shut, and sure enough I woke up and caught myself blasting air through my mouth. I'll never use my nose mask again without taping up!

I cut a Poligrip strip in half and place the two parts side by side between my thumb and index finger while running them under cool water. They get slick. I dampen both lips with water and place the strips at opposites edges of my lip to eliminate drooling and mouth leaking. Occasionaly I blow air like a fountain, but seldom.

Every night

Keep on the good work (or sleep actually)!
And if you need to tape (say you run out of poligrip) don't forget the chapstick on you lips.
