Shocked at my AHI!

Post by DanceDiva26 » Mon Apr 22, 2019 6:09 pm

I'm very fortunate in that I've had very minimal problems in adapting to/using my CPAP. Average for last 8 months =.45. However, this morning I woke up to this AWFUL AHI! I know every night can be different but in 2.5 years of CPAP use I've never gone over 3 and that was one time only. Went over 2.0 only twice.

Although I slept straight through last night, last week was full of wakeups every 2 hours, altho' I didn't turn off machine and fell asleep again after ~10 minutes each time....and yes I yawned a heck of a lot.

Granted, I've been under a bit more stress recently and last week's AHI's were all over 1 but under 2. (Okay numbers but higher than "MY" norm) I exercise/dance/get daily chores done/get together w/ friends etc. and don't outwardly show my stress... but I must be taking it out in my sleep?

Here's my SH screenshot... I've never seen so many OAs clumped together. What's up with that? Thanks for any help!

Looks like you were visited by Pugsy's aliens. If you ask her, I'm sure she will gladly let you keep them.

I would only be concerned if it repeats... one night could mean anything or nothing... some external disturbance you weren't consciously aware of, something you ate, who knows, but see what happens tomorrow - if you're back to normal or not.

Okie Bipap - Please beg Pugsy to keep her aliens at bay!
Julie - Unfortunately wasn't merely a one time event...have had later AHIs way higher than my norm.

BUT... anyone have an explanation for this?

Scrolling back across recent previous AHI daily scores, I was startled to see this one: 20.89 which I don't recall seeing before.

Check the date - April 21, 2019...same date as the screenshot I posted above 2 weeks ago at 10.45AHI ! Somehow the numbers changed in the intervening days? Any possible explanation besides malevolent aliens? Also, 21+ hours of sleep time? And I've had a rash of those "clumpings" which I've never had before. Am I really having weird sleep problems all of a sudden, or is it my machine?

You got bit by the SleepyHead double session bug.
Scroll down below the statistics and see the 2 sessions??? Both identical in time...that's just a SH bug reporting same session twice and everything gets doubled.
Click on one of them to turn it from green to red and that will stop that at least on this night.
It's a random bug....sometimes bites and sometimes not and sometimes shows up later on old reports.
Really annoying bug though because it really messes with the overall statistics.

Might want to see about changing over to OSCAR some time in the near future if this annoyance continues to pop up.

You have somehow managed to import your data twice.

If you take a look at the bottom right you have two (identicle) sessions listed. Turn one off and you should see the original graph again.

AHI of 20.89 divided by 2 is 10.45

It's not being imported twice...it's a known SleepyHead bug and S9 machine reporting.
Pops up even when we haven't imported...and sometimes when we fix it by turning one session off...in a few days it turns itself back on again.
Sometimes the bug would mess with 2 weeks worth of data and I would go shut off the extra sessions and in a week...a new block of double sessions would pop up.
Sometimes from as far back as 6 months ago.
Totally weird....no rhyme or reason to it and we just got used to looking at the hours of use overview graphs and when we saw enormous hours of use that we know didn't happen we would just go in and start turning off sessions.

I once had a months worth to do. Highly annoying.
So far haven't seen it with any AirSense reports.

I would blame the weird numbers on a bad night.
Aliens, tummy ache, wandering mask--hard to say.
It happens. Tonight is a new night.
No reason to freak out over one wacky night.
You woke up. It is all good.

Since there's no history here, I have to ask, why are you preventing the machine from being able to treat you adequately by responding to your needs?

What would I do without this ever helpful forum? I did realize that the 20.89 was double the 10.45 but didn't know the process that was causing it. Thanks, Pugsy for explaining the SH glitch. Out of curiosity I spent all morning scrolling back and turning off sessions. Doubled sessions went all the way back to the beginning! (Nov. 2016)

However this doubling up of sessions seems to have happened retroactively only within the last few weeks. (April 18-25) when I started having the apnea clumpings and higher AHIs. Had I seen the higher AHI readings early on I certainly would have asked about it sooner. I'm glad my statistics page is now accurate ( fingers crossed). My last year's average is back down to .55.

Does this affect only the S9? I have a brand new AS 10 For Her (Umm...Wheezy Whale)...but I loooove my Pepto Pink S9! (Sorry Pugsy...lol) If the glitch continues I will check into Oscar but I've been very happy w/ SH until now...and even then it's just a simple extra step to take since I download every morning.

Sorry PaleRider… don't understand? Am I doing something to prevent my machine from adequately treating me?

You've got the max pressure setting lowered, and you're spending a lot of time up against that limit, the machine wants to go higher, but its little hands are tied.

I rarely have a single digit AHI. My machine is set for between 8cmH2O and 12.

You are lucky. :). Mine is set to start at 10.6 and most nights it doesn't go past 15-16 but I've seen it go as high as 21 on occasion so I keep my settings open because if it needs to go higher it can. Why limit it unless you struggle with aerophagia or are sensitive to pressure changes ?

Looks like they mostly happened when your machine was at it's max level of 15. Maybe setting the max a bit higher could help.
The machine will only go higher IF it needs to, so a higher max shouldn't hurt you.
