Newb reading oximeter data

Post by tammy1001 » Wed May 01, 2019 9:07 pm

Hi all

Hope this is ok to post about as I am pre-CPAP for the moment. I have been diagnosed with positional sleep apnea (severe on my back, almost non-existent on my side) so the doctor sent me away to try positional techniques. Despite him telling me not to worry my pretty little head and overcomplicate things by buying an oximeter, I bought an oximeter. (CMS50I, thanks to this forum!) .

To me it makes sense to have some objective measurement and compare with and without Slumberbump.

Looking at the reading now, is it normal to see such a regular set of results? Looking at the 4-hour section in the screenshot, it looks like exactly the same thing is happening every 10 minutes, heart rate, Sp02, I would have expected this to be all over the place? I dont trust what I'm reading now...or is it not surprising to see such precise regularity?

Thanks for any help!

It could be a glitch in sleepyhead, do you get the same pattern with the supplied Software

Thanks for the reply. I thought I'd try the same thing but with Sp02 Review v1.5 that I tried it doesnt recognize the oximeter. So far, Sleepyhead has been the only software that recognizes it.

Does the data look wrong?

Why are you looking for trouble?

It's more about making sure what I see makes sense because it will have a big impact on next steps. At the moment ,what I can see looks odd to me.

If you are using a new firmware version device you need SPO2 Assistant I am using 3.0.3 (SpO2 Review wont recognise the device).

Yes, the data looks wrong.

Pulse rate of 56 may be close, SpO2 of 94% seems low, and PI of -314% means anesthesia has failed or your labor is going bad...

I haven't seen a display similar to that, so I can't figure out what is going on. Most likely a glitch.

Well, if you HAVE an apnea event, your oxygen drops, and your heart beats faster to try to make up for it,
so those readings are very possibly right.

Some have fewer events, some of us have more, WAY more (before therapy).

I disagree...

This is what apneas and the resulting desaturations look like.
