Remstar problem?

Post by Ichabod » Tue Nov 28, 2006 10:55 am

For the last couple of mornings my machine does not seem to have any air pressure when I wake up. It still is blowing air, but not under any noticeable pressure. The machine seems OK when I first turn it on at night. I have been not feeling well so I have gone to bed early and have been getting up a little later so the machine is running for 7-9 hours or so. Is this supposed to lower pressure after a time?

You didn't mention what your pressure is, but this experience is one that most of us go through......we get used to the pressure.
If you pull your mask away from your face/nose, you'll probably feel the pressure.

My setting is 10cmH2O. I believe this is low and likely easy to become accustomed to over a night. It is just interesting that there is no feeling of resistance if I intentionally not take a breath or exhale for an extended length of time to kind of "trick" the C-flex.

I appreciate any input before I call the dreaded Apria for information. I understand that they may not be as easy to deal with compared to everyone here.

Yep! I have the same experience with mine when it's set between 10 to 12.

I think your machine is just fine.

Let the air from the vent blow on the back of your hand when you go to bed, and check it that way again when you wake up. If it feels more or less the same on the back of you hand, them you're simply used to the pressure.

Use the back of your hand because that part is far more sensitive than your palm.

I agree with Den.

My pressure is 9, and I often have to feel for the exhaust in the middle of the night to reassure myself that I have it on. After the first few nights, I never used the ramp again, so we do become accustomed to it.

One other thing I would add: we become more accustomed to the pressure as we proceed through the night, so that may be adding to your perception that there is a problem.

Ichabod,

Just hang in there. When I started, my pressure was supposed to be 15. I thought I could sail a boat in front of the hose. I had to lower my pressure down to 9 to get consistantly smooth nights. Then one morning, I woke up thinking, just like you, that my machine wasn't working. I stepped up the pressure like Den told me, and had a fairly good night. I've continued to raise the pressure as I could take it, and when it felt as if it wasn't working any more. Now, tonight, I'm going for 13.5. Should do fine. I want to get back up to my prescribed pressure and see how things go. So just don't worry, Den's probably right................your machine is working just fine, you're just getting used to it.

Machine OK

I also thought my machine was decreasing pressure at night and checked it with a gage. Same as it started. My conclusion is that I get use to the pressure. After removing the mask I noticed that I exhale harder or more quickly than I inhale.

Actually, this question comes up fairly frequently.

Best wishes,
