There isn't a great deal that I've seen, but the long term effects of all benzos are pretty much universally acknowledged among providers with experience helping people off of them. Not likely to be a whole lot more research dollars thrown that way, because we know they can affect up to 10% of users for a long, long time. As I said, I've known people in recovery who had symptoms months and sometimes even years later. Especially the"benzo funk", "stinkin' thinkin'" or whatever you want to label it.sila wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2019 12:39 pmThanks, gocamels! I’m wondering if enough research has been done on desmethydiazepam clearance rate to absolutely verify the above. I’ve heard of one addiction doc’s office having the experience of trace metabolites showing up in urine months after people have gotten off valium. You'll see in the literature that the terminal half-life of valium's main active metabolite is roughly 100 hours - so theoretically 500 hours (3 weeks) until it's cleared out.

For me, it’s fatigue, benzo belly, taper-induced weight gain and high blood sugar. Benzos are ruthless. Taking metformin and eating keto to deal with weight and early T2D. I’ve been off valium for six weeks.

If you have diabetes, be extremely careful on the keto diet. I've seen even people with borderline diabetes end up in the hospital in ketoacidosis from trying the keto diet. Are you tracking your blood sugars? I know it's counterintuitive that cutting out carbs can lead to high blood sugar, but it can happen.

Thanks. It’s borderline and I’m tracking sugars; especially with potential for metformin lactoacidosis. I’m not doing heavy duty keto.

Re: AHI increase after valium withdrawal
Post cardiac bypass surgery in2013 I found myself unable to lie flat due to a phrenic nerve loss of my left lung. In essence I would panic if I tried to lie back. My internist of the time put me on Ativan, and with it I was able to sleep just fine, sitting up, or lying back.. So it had a great use in me, and I didn't see a downside.
In 2014 I started hearing from any Doc I was seeing, for whatever problem.... So why are you on Ativan?????????? None of them said JUNKIE, but I felt like they were screaming it at me. I'd go through this long story about my left lung, and each and every one of them would go re-listen to my breath sounds, always coming back around shaking their collective heads. Lungs sound fine...... Back in 2013 I was introduced to a fine Respiratory Doc, who did not do sleep work, just straight up lungs. I went back to see him, and asked for a full workup on my Left lung. Survey said it was acting fine, and even though I had no PN, I had grown accessory muscles that now drove my diaphragm just like it should.
I threw out the remaining Ativan when I got home, reasoning I couldn't get any sicker if I had been on Heroine, actually didn't get sick at all, but for about a month I slept like I was on horseback. Then it was gone, but I do NOT have RLS. Just the 2 of us would make for a cruddy study, but I think your RLS is more a problem here than Ativan maybe?
