Medicare Questions - Bi-level and ASV

Are the Medicare reimbursement codes for bi-level and ASV the same? I know that the code for bi-level auto and S/T is the same, just wasn't sure about the ASV.

Also, is there any requirement that you know of with Medicare that requires someone with mostly centrals to 'fail' on bi-level S/T before moving on to ASV?

The difference between bilevel billing codes is the back up rate availability.
Regular ordinary bilevel machines don't have the ability to set a back up rate and it's the back up rate that breathes for you when you don't breathe on your own.

Most of us will be looking at only the 3 top billing codes...as the 4th one pertains to a machine that is used in conjunction with a real ventilator where a person has a trach tube in place and the machine essentially breathes for the person all the time.
Invasive means something invasive was done like the trach placement.
Non invasive means nothing was done to the body other than putting the mask on.

ASV is a type of bilevel. 'bilevel' encompasses a lot of different types of machines.
