CPAP Without Humidifier
Is there any benefits by not filling your chamber. Strange, but my Pulmonary and Health Care Physicians, both on a CPAP stay away from using any type of water.

It's a comfort issue..not a health issue. If you can sleep comfortable without water..great. Many people, including me, cannot.

Re: CPAP Without Humidifier
It depends on the ambient humidity - on a humid summer night its not needed; on a dry winter night it can be painful without. I've never used the humidifier on my boat, where the ambient humidity is generally above 80%. Modern cpap humidifiers will monitor the ambient, so very little water will be used in a humid location.jwoceanside wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2019 8:47 amIs there any benefits by not filling your chamber. EDIT - I just noticed your username. If you are actually "oceanside" you may not need any added humidity, especially if you're far enough south to avoid dry winter weather.

Re: CPAP Without Humidifier
I have pulmonary issues (embolism 4 years ago, edema last month). My lung guy was annoyed with me because I wasn't using the humidity feature on my CPAP machine. He wanted me to get as much humidity into my apartment as possible (I have a humidity machine in living room) and wanted me using the humidity feature at night on CPAP.

I am curious to know why your Physicians stay away from using any type of water.jwoceanside wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2019 8:47 amIs there any benefits by not filling your chamber. Strange, but my Pulmonary and Health Care Physicians, both on a CPAP stay away from using any type of water.
But yeah if you live beside the ocean then you may not need humidity.
I live in South western Ontario and I just removed mine, will reinstall around Halloween.
Its not necessary here and I get a vacation from maintaining the tank.

Re: CPAP Without Humidifier
With the newer AirSense 10 machines you cannot remove the humidifier without buying a side cover. You can turn the humidity down to "0" and not fill the tank though.Jack Burton wrote: ↑Mon Apr 08, 2019 10:38 am

Re: CPAP Without Humidifier
Year round, I CPAP without the humidifier. My nasal passages don't get dry at night.jwoceanside wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2019 8:47 amIs there any benefits by not filling your chamber. Strange, but my Pulmonary and Health Care Physicians, both on a CPAP stay away from using any type of water.
The benefit - not having to screw around with water and less to carry on trips.

Re: CPAP Without Humidifier
Year round--I use water. I just put less in when RH is high.
After years of dry, itchy, CRUSTY nasal passages,
keeping them moist--keeps my nose and sinuses happy.
