First impressions on Airfit F20 full face mask.

Post by crazydiamond » Tue Apr 02, 2019 11:41 am

I have been 4 years + user of the Mirage Quattro. It has worked okay for me, but I would say I go through seals fast.

As part of my adding a travel CPAP machine (Z2) I wanted to give a smaller face mask a try for my travel kit and got the Airfit F20 mask.

I have not tried the Z2 machine yet (will soon) - but I tried the AIrfit F20 mask and can say it worked darn well. No leaks, smaller form, and easier to clean. It feels like the gasket material is thicker/hardier than the Quattro and may hold up better. With this thinker material I felt I was able to get a tight fit to avoid any leakage. I would also say I was surprised to not really feel any air blowing out - when I put my hand in front of the mask while wearing it so thats good for my wife. Noise was very good.

Just my impressions so far. Going to try it for a week - but I may consider making this my primary and travel mask.

I also see I can try a memory foam cushion for it.

Your post confuses me...I used the Quattro for 8 years. In that time I think my masks lasted about 2 years each..My cushions lasted AT LEAST a year. I boiled them about every 6 months and rarely washed them.. I wiped them with a baby wipe every night....I don't understand how you went through seals (cushions) so fast.

As does yours.

Resmed recommends that the gasket be replaced once a month.

https://www.resmed.com/us/en/consumer/p ... plies.html

Of course they want to sell parts, but I normally see 2-3 months now before I need to replace for good fit, same with head strap. When I first got them I felt the material was better and the lasted 6 months or more. I think the material is thinner these days - but thats just my impression.

I do know that comfort and air leaks improve when I replace every 2-3 months.

However different people - different masks - different wear and tear on their supplies.

And now...you are looking at the memory foam cushion that should be replaced every 3o days and can't be washed.

I noticed this limitation of the memory foam in the reviews before I bought - so I got the silicone one for now.

but "thinking of it " for the travel mask... not the home mask. I travel at most a week a month - and usually only 4 days a month. So I suspect I could get 4 months out of a foam gasket for travel.

I am also a bit fortunate with my insurance which covers the replacement parts regularly and I also have a decent amount for my FSA account through work.

I do like this new mask so far. Very light and compact.

I wonder if the "sock" covers I see for the mask by third parties would help extend life and comfort.

I find that interesting. Last year I agreed to take part in a study done by Resmed. I agreed to use the same F20 cushion for thirteen weeks. I did a short report every week where I told them I was still using the same cushion. I knew I could use a cushion for at least thirteen weeks because the cushion I was using prior to the test had been on my mask for about six months. I quit using the test cushion about five months after I got it and then I tried the Dreamwear FFM for a few months. I have gone back to my F20, but started using a different cushion that has now been in use for about three months. The cushion on my wife's F20 is around a year old and still works just fine. We only change things when they need to be changed, not when the insurance is willing to purchase new ones for us.

Agree completely - and everyone has different wear on their systems - what works for someone up to 6 months might be 3 with another. Hopefully when someone reaches that time they need a replacement - insurance is there, but with cushions its not overly expensive.

As per my initial review on the F20 I think its cushion appears longer lasting than the Quattro.
