Sucks having to turn a light on to put this mask on. Is there something obvious I'm missing?

Yes there are raised logos on top of the frame so you can feel
the correct way up when fitting in the dark

If you feel the pillow with your thumb where the size is (S,M or L) the silicone is smooth and hollowed it feels very different to the top. This gives you an indication of the bottom of the pillow I can now orientate the mask in the dark if needed.

Yes, if you look at the side that faces you, there's a half moon smooth place where the size letter is that you can feel because of the different texture.

There aren't any other things you can feel though.

If you are having trouble feeling sublties in the dark....just add something to the little arm down near the nasal pillow that would be easier to feel and not so subtle so that you know that side always goes to the left or right on your face depending on which side you want to use.
Extra piece of tape or fabric that is easily felt in the dark.

P10 pillows are oval, and tilted toward each other at the top.
They feel weird upside-down.
REALLY WEIRD
If not, you might be a bat.

There is no way I can feel the difference. So I tied a piece of string to the split headband that would be the piece that goes on the crown of my head. So in the dark, I feel for the string, and that is the piece of headband that goes on top.

I get that. The string idea is brilliant!
For most of the last quarter of last year, I could not feel with my fingertips,
due to parasthesia (carpal tunnel)
Accessibility is often a DIY thing--as everyone is different.
I understand that discussions crop up all the time online.
Leave it to the crowd to figure stuff out.

The easiest and simplest way to tell is to run your finger along the front of the mask at the spot where the small mask hose meets the bottom of the mask frame. Since the small mask hose comes in at an obvious back-to-front angle, that means that when the mask is on correctly you will feel with your finger an extra piece of plastic between the hose and the frame but when the mask is on incorrectly you will not feel with your finger that piece of plastic but only hose and frame.

Why are you taking it off? If you have a good seal, and need to go to the bathroom, just remove the hose.

If I turned on a light we would be awake the rest of the night. As soon as the pillows touch my nose I can tell if I have it on correctly or I have to turn it around. Probably won't take you longer than a week to notice if you have it on correctly or not. I have more of a problem getting my hair over the bottom strap than I have putting the mask on correctly. You'll get the hang of it. :)

I think, at least for me, that would add a lot of wear stretching the heated hose connector.

I know this is a concern to you but are you aware of various quick release connectors available at the hose to mask end so that you don't put any extra stress on the rubber end of any hose?

It remains to be seen if my using the Bleep with on/off twice daily of the Bleep hose being attached impacts the grip of my heated hose or not. So far...zero though. If it should happen and I don't want to simply replace the hose...there is an easy fix available anyway. No biggie.

There is the rotation piece at the host but that does not feel like it is intended to be separated. I always feel for the ridges at the top of the mask anyway.

No...I meant a separate connecting piece between hose and mask you you can disconnect at the mask level and leave the other part in the hose so the rubber won't get touched or stressed with repeated connects/disconnects.

Lots of them out there and very cheap too.
Some have swivels and some are simply hose connector adapters.
Here's one of the fancier ones.
