FIRST NIGHT on APAP. Please help interpret my data?

Post by davidhorn » Sat Mar 23, 2019 6:47 pm

Hi all, just received my machine yesterday. I was diagnosed 35+ AHI during sleep study. This is my first night on APAP! Please share your insight!! What numbers should I be looking at? What are some tips and suggestions you may have. Please point out any settings on the machine that I could possibly change for tonight's sleep. Thank you in advance!

Please review the first post in the announcements section, and reformat/repost your pics.

Welcome to the forum. For a first night, it doesn't look too bad. It will probably take you a couple nights to adapt to having that alien thing sitting on your face when sleeping. You lasted longer than I did on my first night. I could only stand that thing for about two hours. I would not recommend any changes for at least a week so you can see what is going on. Many people make the mistake of making changes based on one night. It is best to make changes based on trends. Many of your events are probably sleep/wake junk (SWJ). When we are awake, our breathing pattern is uneven and the machine cannot accurately measure what is going on. It is designed to measure nice, even breathing and then react when that doesn't happen. The transition period between sleep and being awake is often marked by uneven breathing where we often take deep breaths, then hold our breath for a few seconds. The machine will often times call these apneas or hypopneas.
