Non-vented masks?

Before anybody yells about the danger, this is what my doctor is prescribing after titrating for it in a sleep study. (It seems that I'm not getting REM sleep on my ASV, despite nice low AHI numbers.) Evidently it controlled my centrals while on CPAP, and I got REM sleep during the study.

Does anybody know what the options are for non-vented masks? At the sleep study, they just jury-rigged my existing mask, covering the vent holes and putting a vent valve a few inches (of hose extension) down from the mask. Has anybody had any experience with this at home?

Resmed appears to have a non vented mask.

This is not really an unventerd mask the vent is just further away from the mask to increase the dead air space this is known as EERS

Any mask can be made non-vented by plugging the vent holes, BUT NOT THE SAFETY VENT if it has one. My DME told me to use silicone putty which is sold in pharmacies for use as ear plugs. Your DME should give you detailed instructions on how to set this up along with the in-line vent that will be added.

I'm currently using a Resmed N20.

@Jas_williams, that's exactly right, this is for EERS.

@brookfox, thanks for the tip regarding silicone putty (and the safety vent). The DME says they don't have a non-vented version of the Mirage Liberty. I don't know if that means I should use a different DME, or if my current mask won't work because it has a fairly long hose attachment built into it, and they may want less dead space.

I'm curious about the in-line vent. Is that a standard part that gets replaced along with the tubing?

The safety valve is not entirely necessary for a nasal mask, not sure why they put it in there. I took matters into my own hands and removed the safety valve and cut a section off of the corr-a-flex tubing. The volume of the flexible tubing on my mask isn't quite the same as a section of corr-a-flex (I measured it), but it is close enough in my case.
