LOW humidity + non heated tube actually helps my nasal passages

Post by luke1081 » Sat Mar 16, 2019 3:34 am

Like others here, I suffer from seemingly permanent rhinitis, and a deviated septum. I've been using CPAP for about a month. All the advice suggested using a heated tube and introducing high humidity to deal with nasal dryness (which I had before CPAP). However, I'm gradually noticing that using a non heated tube with very little humidity and having cool air running over my nose at night is MUCH more beneficial. Fewer apneas, a more pleasant feeling, more rested the next day. Worth trying for those will similar ailments. High humidity and heated tubing does not appear to always be beneficial for those with nasal dryness, and actually left me feeling MORE congested.

It depends on where you live - if it's a naturally dry or humid atmosphere (changes with the weather and seasons). Adding humidity to an already dampish climate (on a given day) will congest you, all other things being equal. You have to experiment for yourself as to how much you need or not.

this is another example of how we are different from each other. and sometimes, we just have to experiment and see what is right for us.
