Not all docs are up-to-date.
None of them are. There is too much research being published for any doctor to keep up with. Someday, we will be telling our symptoms to IBM Watson Health.
Watson is already at work in health care....

That's one of my problems...I lay there listening to the machine and I breath faster and faster focusing on the machine.
Why?

But he never replaced Mr. Holmes.

CG writes... (Some people, including me, actually find listening to their breathing and the sound of the machine to be relaxing.)

And, I find the breathing sounds similar to ocean surf sounds, quite relaxing.

My only issue is that my new autoset machine is ... too quiet.

Regarding sleeping pills, I never give med advice online, but I will caution that some sleep aids might (might) make apneas worse, due to relaxation of the breathing passages. Something to keep in mind if AHI jumps.

My sleep aid? Crossword puzzles. I try to complete one each night while laying in bed (I use an IPAD mini for this). Often, I just get too sleepy to complete the puzzle. This violates the rules, of course, but it works well for me.

Try putting ear plugs in to block the noise.

That may do little for Baker. He's listening to the machine and his breathing due to anxiety over the CPAP process and sleep apnea.

Baker, you need to try some relaxation techniques to distract yourself from the CPAP process.

I use 10mg Melatonin about 4-5 times a night with no ill affect. I have also used organic medical grade CBD Tincture Oil, 15mg/ml. (No THC) and it can be bought without a medical marijuana card. Put it under your tongue, or on a piece of bread or cookie if you don't like the taste, It can take a couple days for your body to respond to it and you can use more or less. Recommended dosage is 8 drops under the tongue
You wake up 4-5 time a night to take your Melatonin?

Hello all

After seeing the doctor he says I've had a good week with my AHI 6 days it's never been above 1 .
But I'm o oh sleeping 4-5 hours a night which is not good, at that rate its going to be awhile before I start feeling better.

He wants me to try a mild sleep aid.. Tradazone
But when he told me I had hypopnea the fact sheet he gave me said avoid sleeping pills and tranquilizers because the repress breathing.

Anyone have any experience with this pill

Thanks
Hey,

I was prescribed Trazodone a few weeks ago when I kept waking up throughout the night (about every hour) due to anxiety (unrelated to my sleep apnea). It definitely helped in curtailing that to where I would just wake up once or twice. Since then, the cause of my increased anxiety (it was mainly a side effect of a medicine) has gone away, but I still take the Trazodone once in a while when I want to make sure I get better sleep. Yesterday I had a new titration sleep study, and the tech said I could take it then too, so I did. Anyhow, to answer your question, my experience with this pill has been positive.

Best practices for melatonin are much smaller physiologic doses. 300mcg, or 1/3 mg is the bodies natural dose.

Older people over 60 don't produce much melatonin on their own.

Melatonin brands vary greatly in terms of accurate labeling and dosage. This studyhttps://aasm.org/study-finds-that-melat ... es-widely/ showed how inaccurate the dosing and labeling is.

There is slow release melatonin, which may help more with late night awakening. There is also liquid melatonin, which can be used to take a microdose late at night, with less hangover effect.

In general, you should start with 300mcg or less, see how it works and how you feel in the am, and work your way up to perhaps 3mg. For most people (not all) anything higher than 3mg will give you a hangover that lasts till 12 or 1pm.

There's also the issue of when to take it. Ideally you take it several hours before bed, as that resets your body clock to be sleepy.

Good luck!

I recently went to a sleep doctor (Pulmonologist) for the first time in 10 years (Non CPAP related). My sleep issues were sleeping soundly for 5 hours , then restless for 1-2 more. I had been taking 3mg Melatonin before bed. He recommended taking another 3 when I woke up at 3-4 AM.....or.....he told me about REMfresh, a slow release Melatonin that should last 7 hours. I have just started the REMfresh....I will update in a week.

Please do update us. Especially about if you feel hungover in the AM after the REMFresh.
