Hello all, In my quest for some good restful sleep. I see a pattern emerging.
Even though I have had OSA for at least 4 years, I have always slept thru the night.Even if I woke feeling beat up.
Now into my second full week of Bi-Pap(in three years of having this machine this is the most use I have gotten from it, I attribute it to this forum)
I now have a pattern developing of : sleeping for 1 to 2 hours, then becoming awake, staying up for another 1 to 2 hours and then returning to bed to sleep the rest of the night.
Guess I'm asking why?? Has anyone else experienced this?
Any help appreciated. Thanks, DMW

Before treatment, I virtually NEVER was awake in the middle of the night. But then again, I was asleep ANY TIME I was still for a few minutes. I slept while riding in the car, while working at the computer, and almost slept several times while driving a car.
Now I am sleepless once in a while during the night, and I attribute that to having a lower sleep debt. I no longer fall asleep any and everywhere, and sometimes that means I am not falling asleep when I want to--due to anxiety, side effects of medications, etc.
Now that I am better rested, I need to develop more of the good sleep habits that everyone needs--sleeping at regular hours, being careful what I eat or drink, not taking my problems with me to bed.
So, it is possible that your wakefulness is due to being BETTER RESTED like me. It is also possible that there is some aspect of your therapy that is not working well. Maybe your pressure is too high or too low. If you have had the bipap for four years, it is entirely possible your pressure needs are different. Or maybe your mask is leaking, and that is waking you when you hit a period of lighter sleep?
If this is really bothersome to you, some research would be a good idea. Are you monitoring your therapy with software? How recent was your last titration study? Have you eliminated leaks? Have you been practicing good sleep habits (no watching TV in bed, etc.)?
Just some thoughts for your consideration. Take 'em or leave 'em , but either way, good luck,
