Where do you put the hose when sleeping with the P10 - only tried N30i previously
Hi All,
As some of you know, I'm new to the whole CPAP/APAP thing. Have been using the trial Airsense 10 Autoset For Her for about 3 weeks. I initially picked it up and got the N30i with it. I liked it, though I found my seal was inconsistent - usually there was a reasonable amount of leak, but sometimes I had very little leak.
After a little over 2 weeks with it, I asked if I could try out the P10 for a week to see how my results with it are. So far, I haven't really liked it much at all. The pillows being in my nostrils is a bit uncomfortable for me (tried all 3 sizes FYI, and stuck with large since my exhale pressure seemed very constricted with Medium). I think maybe because I started wit the N30i, I found it a bit more uncomfortable. On top of that, my AHI numbers have been a bit higher with the P10, but I think I just haven't been able to get a good nights sleep with them for one of the main reasons being the hose.
With the N30i, and the way the hose is positioned, it never got in my way while I slept. With the P10, since the hose drops down from the nose, I can never find an easy way to keep it positioned properly. Is there something people generally do with this type of setup, or where they put the hose so that it doesn't bother you during the night, especially when you end up turning to your sides? I try to sleep on my back most of the night, and drop the hose down to my chest, under my blanket, but eventually it just drops off, and tugs a bit on my nose, a feel a bit of a leak, and readjust quickly and try to go back to sleep.
I think I really may just switch back to the N30i at the end of my trial, because it just felt more comfortable. And for some reason, if I'm congested in one nostril at night, the N30i seems to handle that better than the P10, primarily on the exhale.
Thanks!

Re: Where do you put the hose when sleeping with the P10 - only tried N30i previously
I suggest getting a hosebuddy. It keeps the hose above you except for the amount you need. I have the P10 and a hosebuddy that my father in law bought for me. There is no tugging. I sleep on my side so I usually just pull out enough hose to be able to turn over. Typically I push the hose buddy to one side so it doesn’t hang down in my face then when I turn over the hose lays across my neck. When I roll back over I might have to slide the hose off the pillow but it usually will fall off on its own. Sorry if this doesn’t make any sense. It’s hard to explain in writing. I hope you can figure out a solution.

One of the pros to the P10 happens to be one of the cons as well for some people.
It weighs next to nothing and not much on the head in terms of headgear so it is easily dislodged by hose movement.
I have always routed the hose outside of me...up around the bed pillow (laying on the mattress) and coming down to my face. I have done that for years will all the nasal pillow masks I have ever used and it works well for me. Coming down from the top the hose rarely gets tugged on to the point it pulls the nasal pillows out or moves them.
Now a lot of others use some sort of hose management system...either buy one or fix up a DIY hose management system...this keeps the hose up and away from the body so less chance of it getting to tug on the mask.
Can be used with any mask too.

Pillows are not designed to go inside your nostrils..they stay outside.needsleeptoronto wrote: ↑Mon Feb 25, 2019 8:55 amHi All,

Sounds like the higher AHI is more from not sleeping well than anything else. Probably a good bit of SWJ flagging going on.needsleeptoronto wrote: ↑Mon Feb 25, 2019 8:55 amThe pillows being in my nostrils is a bit uncomfortable for me (tried all 3 sizes FYI, and stuck with large since my exhale pressure seemed very constricted with Medium). Also sounds like you had the tension too tight if the large pillow was uncomfortable and felt like it was inside your nostril.
Nothing goes inside the nostril except the tiny tip of the inner cone and even that never touches anywhere inside the nostril.

with the P10 I use a simple hose clip, https://www.cpap.com/productpage/tube-h ... ement-clip and clip to either your PJs or pillow.

Re: Where do you put the hose when sleeping with the P10 - only tried N30i previously
I use the Airfit P10. I found if I put the main hose under my pillow with just enough sticking out so there is slack in the mask hose, the weight of the pillow and my head keeps the hose from pulling on the mask. Works good, but I don't move around much. Controlling the heavy hose is the secret to comfortable sleeping and lower leaks IMHO.

Second the Hose buddy solution. My hose comes down from above, and that keeps it out of my way.
