Some rx ophthalmic products do contain petroleum jelly.
Used it for pinkeye once. Too gooey for me!
I think another thickener is sodium acetate.

No, Bill - again, that's the nighttime ointment. I'm talking about the gel. It's down to "only" $27 a tube now from third-party sellers, but still not worth it:wm_hess wrote: ↑Tue Feb 05, 2019 4:51 pmThink you might need to double check your pricing. $47.00 for a pack of FOUR. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/slredirect/ ... ame=sp_atfAMC4x4 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 28, 2019 9:54 amYeah, but if you look at those third-party sellers, they want $40 for a tube when it normally retails at like $12-15 a tube. Something's up.
I like the gumminess of the nighttime gel and am wary of anything thinner, that it won't plug my tear ducts enough overnight.
Guess I will try the regular Systane gel drops as I'm not giving in to the price gouging from third-party Amazon sellers.![]()

If you want the two packs, only $65!

Thanks, Granny. Didn't know the ointment ones are mostly petroleum jelly. I'm all about staying away from chemicals when possible, was just saying I'd rather use something that was actually tested by an optical company for use in my eyes. But I hear you.

Re: Systane Nighttime Eye Gel - found at Walgreens
Just went through this shortage issue a few days ago. Amazon had a few sellers at extortionate prices. Walgreen's, however, had it in stock locally, even with a "buy one, get one half off" offer at about the same price I paid a year ago.AMC4x4 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 26, 2019 12:04 amA couple years ago on this forum, I mentioned that I was getting air blowing out my tear ducts with my new CPAP and someone recommended Systane Nighttime Eye Gel, which is a thick gel. Never had a problem after that. Thought perhaps it was a seasonal thing, but when I tried a night without it, out came the air again.
So I went into a little bit of a panic when I went to re-order and it's not online anywhere and all the stores are sold out. Anyone know if it's no longer being made?
I read an article about a competitive product that had not been available for some time because of a "shortage of an ingredient," resulting in shortage of all similar products, such as Systane.

You are made of chemikills. Your spouse is made of chemikills. Your children are made of chemikills. The food you eat is made of chemikills. Every dry-eye product on the market is made of chemikills.

I hope you can find a dry-eye product that works for you and is priced reasonably.
Have a good week.

Interesting, since life itself is made of chemicals, as is your cpap mask.

Yes, supposedly the ingredient shortage was actually the TUBE materials if you can believe it. At least that's what I read on one of the sites I went to.BlueDragon wrote: ↑Sun Feb 17, 2019 8:39 pmI read an article about a competitive product that had not been available for some time because of a "shortage of an ingredient," resulting in shortage of all similar products, such as Systane.
In other news, as George Carlin said, "Chemicals are natural - they come from the earth!"
