Frankenstein Mask...

Post by accrn » Fri Feb 08, 2019 11:40 am

I have gone full mad scientist here. In my search for a mask that works for me I found I liked the P10 the best, especially the minimalist headgear. But I seem to be able to dislodge the nasal pillows pretty easily. So I tried the Brevida and the nasal apparatus seems to be great, but the headgear slipped around all over my head. If I tightened it enough to keep it in place, it "squished" the nasal pillow out of shape and caused leaks. So, I combined the two and I think I may have my *perfect* mask. I only have one night with it so far, but it was the best night's sleep I've had in my adult life.

That's good to know! When I have some mad money I'll try one of those. Right now, I'm trying to make do with what I have. Thank you!

I am very happy to report that I've been using the FrankenMask since I posted here and it had solved ALL of my fit issues. I liked the P10, but I would dislodge it frequently and wake up. I liked the Brevida mask very much because its squishy seal stays put better for me, but the F&P headgear is awful for me. There's very little elasticity, it slips around all over my head, and just doesn't fit me well. After taking the P10 headgear and sewing in the clips from the Brevida headgear, I have had ZERO problems. I am sleeping through the night and my AHI is staying around 1.5-2.

good to hear it! and an important reminder to newbies that finding the right mask for each individual is a long and arduous process, but it pays off in the end.

and sometimes, you have to be innovative and cobble something together.

Some of my favorite masks have been "Frankenstein" masks. Thanks for sharing to encourage others to think outside the box to meet their specific needs. Years ago when I was new here one regular poster named Rested Gal bestowed a Lab Rat Award to those who shared their creations. Bet she would have given you one.

Thanks so much for posting this.

I have a Brevida that I wore for a while, liked the mask but not so much the headgear, and a P10 that I stopped using because it began to irritate my nose, so the hybrid you created will work perfectly to recycle the best parts of the masks I gave up on! I love my Dreamwear but do enjoy a bit of experimentation now and then to keep things interesting.
