Travel: Checked Lugged with Distilled Water Packed in

Post by jamor » Wed Feb 06, 2019 10:38 am

Hey all,

My new project for work has me traveling without a car, and taking the metro in DC to my workspace and hotel. I am not sure how easy it will be to find a drug store where I am at, so I am contemplating carrying some distilled water in a Nalgene bottle for my 3 nights. Has anyone every packed one of those in their checked luggage? In the past, when situations like this came up, I would simply buy a bottle of Disani or Auqafina from the vending machine, but I will be traveling regularly now and figured this might be a bit easier.

Side note: I wish hotels would sell 20oz bottles of distilled water. How nice would that be???

In an emergency, you can use any water that is safe to drink (except colored, flavored, or carbonated). If you do that, you should wash your tank to remove the deposits when you get back home.

Just use tap water, the *only* reason to use distilled water is the convenience of avoiding mineral buildup and needing to give the container a vinegar soak now and then.

Yeah, in thinking about it -- most hotels have a water softener as well.

In a non-emergency, you can use tap water that is safe to drink.
Fixed.

This is so obviously true, Jamor?!

As Central Florida has many hotels and promotes itself as "Family and Multi-generational" I wonder which resorts here offer 20oz bottles of distilled water? They could go in a vending machine too, right?

I am going to ask all my tourist loving concierge friends~~~

I travel constantly, and never concern myself with distilled water. Any non-carbonated bottled drinking water does the trick.

I have packed distilled water in my checked luggage, I used a hydro flask - 32 ounce container for an international trip. It can make your luggage a bit heavy with the water, so for me I did this once or twice before.

Sometimes I just use the bottled water you can buy.

Sometimes I didn't bring my humidifier. (My old PAP device had a detachable humidifier)

I was wondering about this too. I will be traveling to a country where you're not suppose to drink the tap water. I'll probably just get a few bottles of water from the resort.
