Sleep Apnea Creates Gaps in Life Memories: Study

Post by D.H. » Sun Feb 03, 2019 10:10 am

The article says that untreated sleep apnea causes memory issues. It also says that treating sleep apnea (with CPAP) clearly shows improvement. What it concedes is not determined by this study is whether "lost" memories prior to treatment can be recovered (or to what extent).

What is not addressed in the article is non-CPAP treatment.

Very interesting. Do you have gaps in memories that you wish you could get back? How long is the gap in your memory prior to treatment?

sometimes in order to succeed it just takes one more try. and a lot of frustration along the way.

Could be a good or bad problem depending on how you look at it! Like your own "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind"

Eh. Whenever a memory gets cloudy, I just make up something pleasant to fill in that gap. Next thing I know, I think it actually happened. Like America of the 1950s.

All history is revisionist history.

I'm amazed how little I remember of the past .. childhood, school teachers names etc, even memories of my mother are few and far between.

I blamed it on enjoying the 60's and 70's waaay too much

Maybe this is finally an explanation.

i've always wanted to revisit the past. not as in going there physically. more like if there were a way to view a recording of what happen then.

this is just of my own personal history. i want to know did becky REALLY say what i thought she said in 7th grade? or was that just something i miss-heard?

did i really make the best decision about certain things based on what i supposed happened at that time?

not really sure what good any of this would do me. but i AM curious.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

When I was started CPAP therapy in 2007, I read a study that stated that undiagnosed men with severe OSA (sleep study after brain scan) showed brain lesions but after a year of CPAP therapy 98% showed those lesions healed.

I have missing memories. I only know it when someone says "Remember when x occurred..." and I am completely clueless. While most of my memory/recall issues were healed after a few months (years?) of being a hosehead, some are just gone. It's not missing large gaps of time, just random memories.
