Hey everyone, forgive any typos, I’m posting from my phone.
I am new to CPAP, started last Wednesday. Going through the normal struggles of geetingnused to the mask and pressure. Last night was the first night I was actually able to fall asleep with the mask on. I was woken up to my mask making a strange noise every time I exhaled. I did a google search and I guess it’s caled “farting.” It was fairly slow and rhythmic. More like a knocking. I could not fall back asleep. I found a small bit of moisture in the mask. I wipe it out and dried it off and the noise went away. An hour later I woke up and it was back. I had to take the mask off because I couldn’t get it to stop.
Some details. I have my heated tube st to 72. I can’t stand breathing warm air. I grow up in the northeast. Heat low at night and crisp cold air to breath. My humidifier is Fios with chilled water and set to 4. Every time it happened I performed a mask for test and it was always listed as good. The app that goes with my machine shows no leaks at all. I’m at a loss.
Equipment:
ResMed AirSense 10 Auto Set
Resmed airfit f20
Heated tube
Oh yeah I also have a beard in case that could be the cause.

Welcome to the forum.
Probably moisture in your own exhaled breath condensing in the mask to cause the moisture annoyance.
Not much you can do about moisture in your own breath except to try to keep the air warm enough in the mask so that the moisture isn't released when the air cools down to the point it can't hold onto the water any more.
See this thread for various options for dealing with moisture/condensation in the mask or hose. Posts number 2 and 3.

You gotta figure out some way to keep the air in the mask a little warmer and still not be so warm it's uncomfortable to you.
Some people may tell you to reduce the humidifier setting...that may or may not help. I know people who don't use a humidifier at all and still get condensation in the mask from the moisture in their own exhaled breath.
Also machine position (the lower than your bed thing) doesn't always help either. Been there and done that and even with the hose held totally straight up vertical it doesn't always drain well enough to stop the noise or dry the mask or hose out enough.

I have the exact same machine. I had the same thing happen. I had put water past the max line in the humidifier. I then poured some of the water out and the noise stopped. Always fill the humidifier below the max line.

Speaking about the F20 ResMed mask: My replacement recently had a different type of elbow from the prior one. I had significant problems with the new elbow. Tons of aerophagia and waking up every 1/2 hr to 1 hr. Fortunately had the old elbow still available. Switched back to the old elbow, big drop in aerophagia and sleeping several hours at a time. Is the older type elbow still available for purchase as a separate item?
I did try the F30 mask, which also has the new elbow type, had significant aerophagia and waking up constantly. That was why I went back to the F20 assuming that the new mask wasn't suitable for me. So it seems that the new improved elbow piece doesn't work for me. Have others experienced these issues.

A mask liner might stop your mask farts. They don't stop all of the leaks, but they keep the leaks quieter and will absorb any moisture that forms around the edge of the mask. If you want to try making a liner, you can find a pattern at this web site: http://montfordhouse.com/cpap/diy-cotto ... liner.pdfI made my
I made my mask liners out of an old, well-used tee shirt. We had another member here on the forum that said she made her mask liners out of her old underwear. Any soft material will work. I have even made liners out of knit paint rags I purchased at Lowes.
