Full Face Mask or Pillows?????

Post by pitman » Wed Jan 30, 2019 8:22 pm

I am experiencing difficulty with a full face mask with big leaks 25-35%. I have tried 3 full face masks, F20, F10, F30. I used a P10 for a long time until I was told by the sleep doctor chin straps do not work, and it would not matter if I used a FF mask or a nasal pillow because the machine will compensate for leaks. I was a severe mouth breather and was getting no therapy so I tried using a chin strap which did not help much. I sleep horribly, up a lot and feel hung over daily. Being over weight makes it difficult to sleep on my back so sleeping in a chair seems better for breathing but is hard on the back.

Any needed advice. Which mask type would be best, pillows or full face?

i use a p10 and use this with it to help guard against mouth leaks-

i also use a foam cervical collar. this works for me. it may work for you.

good luck!

If you are breathing through your mouth, you need a full face mask. There are many different styles though, so you may just need to find a different version that works better for you. I use the Resmed Quattro FX.

There are some ways for many people to stop mouth breathing and use the nasal pillows, but you have to master breathing through your nose. Otherwise, the therapy is just escaping out of your mouth, and the cpap is unable to help you. I'm sure several people will offer advice. Sometimes it is a matter of clearing your nose, changing humidity settings, or using a cervical collar.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

Try Remzzz liners to help with the leakage. I have a beard and they help me tremendously with leakage with my simplus FFM.

The machine will compensate for smaller leaks.

Do you have the option of trying different masks? Like others have said there are a LOT of choices. I'm currently on mask #20....
Good luck.

My mask (click on it in my signature to see it) has pillows and cover the mouth so no loss of therapy air whether breathing through nose or mouth. Comes with 3 sizes of pillow and oral cushion. Has a small chin support to help stablize mask as you move around.
