Frequency or duration of apnea.

Post by garyjack » Mon Jan 28, 2019 1:06 pm

Does anyone have any thoughts on what may be worse, the total number of apneas or the duration of each apnea. For example would it be worse to have 6 apneas at 10 seconds each or 2 apneas at 30 seconds each.

Usually, it's a combination, but number is the "official" measurement.
Length definitely has an impact.

I'd say the 6. Because that's 3 times the sleep disruptions.

AHI measures the number of incidents, but that doesn't mean it's more important.

Note that a high AHI can mean shorter incidents, as you can't have a "new" episode until the "old" one ends.

True, the good news after a 10 minute Apnea, would be your last one and you wouldn't need to wear the mask again. Jim

Also another factor comes into play, being woke up over and over isn't a good thing.

Not necessarily. It depends on how cold you are at the time.

My bedroom is cold (63 degrees), but not that cold. Jim
