Hybrid masks

Post by Barbee » Thu Jan 24, 2019 6:42 am

Im thinking about trying a hybrid mask. The 2 Im looking at are the Innommed and the Mirage Liberty. This will be an out of my pocket purchase right now. I currently use an F20 and like it, but its really been bothering my nose this past month. My poor nose needs a break from the mask but I need to replace it with something.

If you use/used either of these masks, I would love to hear your experience. Pro or Con, I want to hear it. The Mirage looks to be quite a bit more expensive. Is there a reason for that Im missing?

Of the 2 official Hybrid types of masks.
Get the Innomed/RespCare ....it comes with 3 cushion sizes.
With the Liberty you have to choose size ahead of time...and as to why it costs so much more....ResMed is real proud of it is about the only reason I can think of.

Thanks :D
Do you know if the Liberty uses the same fancy elbow as the F20?

The Liberty's a much older mask than the F20, so, no, it doesn't. Whether you could make it fit or not, i dunno, but it'd probably be a bad idea.

I doubt that the Liberty uses the same elbow.
The Liberty was around when I started therapy in 2009...the F series masks are relatively new in age and I doubt if the elbows are interchangeable.

What I really want to see is a Hybrid mask that utilizes the Brevida/Pilairo style pillows.

Fisher/Paykel, are you listening?

Don't hold your breath.

I was kinda hoping that Resprionics would do the full face mask insert/cushion with their gel pillows instead of the under the nose cushion.
I am not holding my breath on that one either.

LinkC and I both wear the Innomed/RespCare Hybrid with our APAPs. I made an extra strap to help my pillows stay in place when my pressure goes high. If you have any issues, please post. I think he's worn it longer than I; I started in 2009. I know there are other members who wear this mask.

Thanks. Im sure it will be a big adjustment, but I dont give up easily. I run a straight 10 pressure so that might be a plus for me. If it doesnt deliver today Im going to have to buy more big bandaids. Last night I had to use one with Scooby Doo on it :D

When I was using a mask that caused problems with my nose, I used band-aids until my nose healed, then started using a piece of moleskin on my nose every night. This provided enough of a cushion that the mask did not make my nose sore, but was thin enough for the mask to seal around it. You can find it in the foot care section of drugstores or Walmart. If you decide it works for you and you want to continue using it, you can find it at Amazon in five yard rolls. I would simply cut off a piece and stick it on my nose every night. The RT I worked with when I first started treatment told me about it. She said her husband used it every night to keep his nose from getting sore.

Thanks for the tip! This has been no problem in the past for me but for some reason the past 3 weeks my nose is a mess. At first I thought it was my new pillow but I put another pillow in and its no better. I have been moving the pillow up and down my nose to keep the pressure at different places so now my entire nose looks like I scraped it. Ugh!

Ok. So the mask came today. I have been fiddling with things for about an hour. The connector thingies I dont like as well as my F20 but I think i can get used to these. Also, no foam seal around the pillow which I was leery of but its very comfy. The headgear hits the back of my neck much higher than my old one and feels way better.
I hooked the rascal up to my machine and turned it on. Just a bit of wiggling and I got a good seal. I tried reclining back and watching tv. Got my tablet out and I can see so much better.
Lets see how things go tonight :D

Update. Not as good of sleep as I hoped. The mask was seated good but the minute my chin dropped, it broke the seal around my mouth and leak city. I will try again with a chin strap. Wondering if the Liberty might be a better design for me as it does not go under the chin.
I will keep working on it lol
