I have a friend that has been diagnosed with sleep apnea. She would like to try using my backup dreamstation bipap to see if she could handle wearing a mask at night. Question what would be a good starting setting for her to try? When I started my doctor set me at EPAP of 7, IPAP of 20 and a PS of 5. She a pretty small I was wondering if 5,17 and 5 would be a good starting point?
Thanks

Dreamstation Auto BiPAP 700X110 (firmwear 1.7)
Re: Starting Bipap settings
Okay.
I think PS of 5 might be a bit much all by itself for someone never having done this sort of thing but you should have a range available in Auto Mode...PS minimum and maximum....so I think maybe PS minimum of 3 and max of 5 and if the machine needs to go higher than 3 then it can.
Also when you add PS of 5 to EPAP even with an EPAP minimum of 5...with PS of 5 that makes IPAP 10 and that might be uncomfortable.
If you do the min PS of 3...then starting out the night EPAP will be 5 and IPAP will be 8....much more comfortable.
IPAP max doesn't really matter all that much. The machine won't go higher than it thinks it needs to go for some reason...and if it does and the going higher causes a problem then we look at things and re-evaluate the need to go higher.

Re: Starting Bipap settings
Wow great responds. I thought I maybe setting it a little high for her. I like setting the PS in a range. For myself I have my ps setting at 5 to 6, so not much of a range.
